SEF 15x12 On M6/MXT- Deepest Coil For Rings/Coins?

The 15x12 is the deepest coil on the Minelabs out there for coin or ring sized targets from what most say. I just bought one for my Sovereign GT and I love it. Everything I heard about it's stability, depth, unmasking ability, separation, pinpointing, etc has proven true thus far. As we all know though, different machines work better with certain coils than others. A friend of mine has an M6 and the 10" DD Whites coil along with the 5" Excelerator DD and the 9.5" Whites concentric. He is looking for the deepest coil out there for the M6 on coin/ring sized targets. If the SEF follows suit on the Whites like it does on the Minelabs then the 15x12 is where it's at for max depth/sensitivity on these sized targets. We are just wondering who's tested this coil on an M6/MXT and if you felt it was the deepest for them? The 12x10 is also said to be deeper than the 10" or even the 11" Minelab Pro Coils but from what I've read it's not quite as deep as the 15x12 on dimes/pennies or anything larger. The 12x10 gets a half inch more depth on a cut quarter penny, but that's a tiny little thing even smaller than a half dime. Any smaller coil will get better depth on something that small. Not knocking the 12x10 though, it's a great coil with all the same great traits of the 15x12. He'll opt for that coil if the 15x12 on the Whites isn't as deep for some reason on coins/rings.

I think by reviews and specifications that the 10x12 will beat the 15x12 for the kind of hunting you are planning to do

the 10x12 is on my wish list at the moment

Based on what information? I know that's not true on the Minelabs....the 12x10 is a great coil and deeper than the stock 10 or 11" Sovereign/Etrac/Explorer coils, but the 15x12 is said by most to get even deeper on coin/ring sized targets while still retaining good smaller target sensitivity. The 12x10 only beats it by half an inch on a very tiny sliver of silver smaller than a half dime, but any smaller coil will be more sensitive to something that small. I can say the 15x12 gets better seperation, pinpoints better, is more stable, and will unmask *certain specific* coins in trash or on edge than my 10". That's due to it's unique morphed detection field that seems to hit certain masked or on edge coins that "typical" concentric or DD designs (even ovals or eclipses) seem to have trouble hitting right. Sure, some of them will unmask certain coins better too but by my way of thinking there are more of those coils out there and so more of those masked/on edge coins have been found already, while the ones the SEF coils like are still waiting to be found. I've dug no less than two on edge silver dimes with one being masked by heavy trash since I started using this coil a few weeks ago. It's all more stable and produces better tones and more solid ID locks than any coil I've ever used on any machine.

All that being said, it still doesn't mean these coils are the same on the M6/MXT machines, so I need input from those who have owned both SEFs and/or the larger coils for these machines to give a comparison opinion on. Remember, deepest coil for coin/ring sized targets.

Wish I could help you on this but I am still trying to decide which coil to get for the mxt for better depth than the 6x10 dd.

From what I have read, there is little difference on depth between the 10X12 and the larger coils, but there sure is a big difference in the weight. I use the 10X12 on my V3 and it works great.

Aint what I read. Plenty (at least for the Minelabs) say the 15x12 is the deepest coil for coin/ring sized targets they've ever used, over even the WOT and S-12 or other coils. Not knocking the 12x10, because they also say that coil is deeper than the 10 or 11", but that the 15x12 was deeper even still on those sized targets than the 12x10. This big coil has great separation, pinpointing, and is very stable. I'd say it separates better than my 9.5" Whites concentrics I'ved own or my 10" Tornado on my GT. Also pinpoints tighter and is more stable than those IMHO. It's an awesome coil with fantastic coverage as well. Just wonder if it's just as good on the Whites?

bula I don't know about the 15x12, but I have been using the 10"dd Excellerator coil on my M6 and have not put the 6x10 on since. It is deeper then the stock 9.5" and has great separation and is really good on small items.
