SEF 12x15 vs Exc. 10 dd in medium to high min. grounds

I don't have ether coil but I was wandering the same question, so I called Kellyco and ask some of there sales reps. And they said that the 10 X 12 Excelerator SEF will detect deeper then the 10"DD EXcelerator and separate items better. But right now they are having an overstock sale on the 10" and its $160.00 and the 10 X 12 is $169.95. Hope this might help.

I did not ask about the 12 X 15 SEF:shrug:

I would agree with Bob on the depth advantage of the 12X15, but question the separation claim. A general rule with like coils is: The larger the coil, the better the depth. The smaller the coil, the better separation it has. Other factors to consider is the weight difference and how trashy is the ground you are going to hunt. Larger coils work best in trash free or low trash ground.

The two coils have different uses. The 10" is a good size to leave on most of the time until who get into really trashy areas. Maybe this is why Whites has come out with their 10" coil. The 12" doesn't seem to have been a success, maybe it is too big. The 12x15 wouldn't be a coil that you would have on all the time.

Then there is the weight, the 10" is only 1oz heavier than the stock coil. I use to know the the weight of the 12x15 and it is one heavy coil. Whites 1400 is a coil that is deeper then the stock coil and the 6x10 but guys don't swing it much because of the weight penalty.

I think the 10x12 might be a better choice and would like to know how it compares to depth of the 10". Again the 10x12 would be heavier but not as much as the 12x15. Rob

I only have 3 hours on the 10X12 vs. many 100's, on the EX 10"DD, but the 10X12 seems to get about an inch deeper. No other conclusions made on it yet.......still testing.

Rob, When I called kellyco I compared the 10" to the 10 X 12 SEF not the 12X 15 SEF. They said that the 10 X 12 does go deeper.

Bob,

I'm hard to convince. I like to see the results myself. The field tests don't say much about coins. They always concentrate on relics. Monte has a 10x12 and I'm waiting to see his test. Larry , I didn't know you had one. Have you got the weight on the 10x12? Rob

It is out in the truck and I'm still in my jammies or I would weigh it for you. I bought it from a fellow poster last week and first impressions were not good. It works OK on the MXT but on the DFX I get side lobes and erratic VDI on targets of 4-5 inches or less. I get a right, left and center target ID and the center one gives the right ID. The other two lobes gives a higher VDI. It seems to settle down the deeper the target is. It might be the way I have the DFX set up too. I usually run it "hot" at a cost of stability.

Thank You for reply!
I think that I'll wait for more opinions on the 15x12 SEF. It seems that it did get good and bad reviews.
I have white's 6x10 DD and 1400 DD, so maybe I could wait for the 10 DD.
Any picture of the new 10" DD white's coil?
Best regards,

Check out Kellyco web site- heres the 10" DD EXcelerator coil

I own the
sef 12X15 coil and am very impressed with its performance. Separation is excellent. Pinpointing is right on. It can be a little difficult to swing in taller grass. I use it on my MXT and can swing it for a couple of hours without much arm stress. Probably would be nice used with a Swingy Thingy. for all day use. The depth on deep coins is very good. In some cases down to 12+ inches on a Quarter or nickel. It also sells for a lower price than the Whites bigger coils. The next size down on the SEF may be more usable for some people. I use it in moderately trashy areas without much of a problem. Of course I prefer my 4X6 whites coil for trashy areas.
