SEF 12x10 Butterfly Coils for GT Now In Stock at Kellyco

I just got off the phone with JW at Kellyco (great guy BTW!). He told me that SEF 12x10 coils are now back in stock and available for ordering. Give him a call.

I thought they had them again or would soon. I got a call from them the very day I got a used one I bought online. Was kind of a funny coincidence. I think I pretty much have all the best coils for my Elites now but, still waiting on 8" Tornado though.

I just ordered the 12 X 10 SEF from Kellyco.

JW told me that they will carry them as long as there is a demand. He has a few left in stock and will order more if needed. It takes a while to get them from the factory. I have the 13 inch Ultimate and plan on keeping that also as it is a great coil. I am a bit worried about the Ultimate's ability in salt water so the SEF will be coming along when I winter over in Florida. Just in case.

I will report on the comparison between the two coils when I'm in the land of the newly wed and nearly dead. (Florida).

Nine more in stock now after I ordered mine this morning.
As the Sov is discontinued I wouldn't count on the 10x12 getting easier to get once they're gone.
At some point they will dry up once dealer stock of existing Sovs is exhausted.

I wanted the SEF 10 X 12 and was even considering the 15 X 12. I called Kellyco and was told that they did not have any in stock and would never get them since the Sovereign was being discontinued. Even though a few days later someone from Kellyco posted on here that they had the 15 X 12 in stock I was told by their salesperson that they did not. Having heard that from Kellyco I decided to try to find an alternative coil. I found The 13" Ultimate and made the purchase. The Ulitmate works quite well for me. I only wish that it was water proof not water resistant. Since I am an OLD Retired Rascal and do not have money growing on trees I now do not have the money for the 10 X 12. As one who worked in Retail for 13 years I was not favorably impressed with the salesperson that I talked to on the phone.

I have been using the Ultimate in fresh water with no ill effects at all. Not sure why they call it water resistant but I can attest to the ability of this coil in fresh water up to 5 feet deep. I have heard some concerns about the ability of the Ultimate in salt water as far as falsing and such. I'll see first hand this coming winter in Florida. Just in case, I got the 12 x 10 SEF if the Ultimate has salt water trouble.

The Ultimate for me has been a killer on land. I've got it hard wired into my Excalibur and it hits deep and hard. I like it even better than the WOT coil. I've hit old school yards that I had covered pretty well with the WOT coil and have found deeper stuff with the Ultimate that I missed with the WOT.

Yesterday I ran the Ultimate over part of an old school yard. School was built in either the late 40's or early 50's. I was hopeful that there might be a silver coin or two hidden in the dirt. Unfortunately I believe that who ever mowed the yard just ran over aluminum cans with the mower as there is aluminum chaff everywhere. Along with the usual assortment of pull tabs. Best find was a 1944 wheat penny. The Ulitmate is my salt water beach coil and open land area coil. I sometimes get tired of digging before I get down to the coins on the beach. On land I find that most coins are much shallower even those that have been there for years. As a newbie I am finding that I love the hunt and the finding of things that were lost and now are found. I did have a problem yesterday with EMI but I was at the time directly under the electric lines that go to the old building. Once I got a little way away from the lines I could then run the sensitivity full bore. On the salt water beach if the sand is wet I can run full sensitivity but once I get on dry sand I have to turn it down to about 11 oclock.

the older coinsearch coils where listed as water resistant also and a trick we did back then was to unscrew the cable protector on top of the coil(not the part that is actually attacted to the coil, the flexible piece that connects to that which prevents the coil from bending to much and breaking) and load it up with aquarium grade silicone, then reinstall the flex piece and let it dry a day or two. That was the only place water could have gotten in the consearch and although they were buoyant that worked well wading. when you removed the flex connector there was an O ring there, that was a spot that water could get in. that might be something to look into doing on these ultimate coils for a little more protection.
I agree with ML, its puzzling that today any coils are made that are not waterproof. they should all be made thin, light and waterproof like minelabs pro coils or the older Troy coils.

I just received my 12 x 10 SEF and have used it for several hours today on my Excalibur II. Here I will compare it to the 13 inch Ultimate which I have been using for over a month now.

First off, I can now say that I will have to figure out a way to quick connect my coils with a waterproof connector some how. I really like the Ultimate and so far, the 12 x 10 is also fantastic. From what I have been hearing, the Ultimate is not as stable in salt water as the 12 x10 so I will be taking both down to Florida for a few months of hunting the beaches and water. So a good quick waterproof connector will be needed.

The 12 x 10 right away I noticed is a bit more stable around power lines. At a local old school yard I was able to hunt in areas that the Ultimate was not able to. The 12 x 10 did not have any threshold flutter like the Ultimate does at higher sensitivity settings. I was able to run up the sensitivity on the 12 x 10 where the Ultimate required me to run it down. But I did not notice a difference in the depth between the two. Pin pointing with the 12 x 10 is about the same to me as the Ultimate. Both right on.

As far as depth goes, the Ultimate seems to be on par with the 12 x 10. The Ultimate's ability sound wise seems to be a bit better than the 12 x 10. I can tell easier what is what with the Ultimate's report on my Excalibur II than the 12 x 10.

Both are excellent coils and I plan on keeping both. They are pretty awesome coils and would recommend them highly. Even more so than the WOT which I have been using in the past for over 4 years. The WOT was great for its time. These coils are the new best.

Finderskeepers, thats mostly what I found out also. I've had my 10x12 for about a week now but only used it 4 times. I like the 10x12 better than the Ultimate mostly on account that I don't have to fuss with it to get rid of EMI. I do think the 10x12 pinpoints better though and is plenty loud even though the Ultimate is a little louder. I also think the 10x12 is a better choice if you could only buy one of the coils, for the simple reason that it will do everything the Ultimate will do maybe better or very close (as in the loudness level) and you can take the 10x12 places that the Ultimate will not go because of EMI. I don't see any point in owning two coils when one of them is clearly a better choice. EMI is a pain and going back to the car to put the 10x12 on because you ran into EMI that couldn't be tamed just don't make sense to me.
