Trash be darned! I went back to the new spot. First starting out it was very trashy, BUT, i got a glimmer of hope! Found this ...

My heart skipped a beat.......was this the lid to a cache?......I recheck the hole....nothing....Then when grabbing the lid to add to the trash pile, i turned it over and saw this.....

[/img] Well now I may be onto something, I said to myself.

The porcelain is labeled as "Boyd's Genuine Porcelain Lined Cap" a quick bit of research says they arent all that rare but dat from the 1920's-50's. Being that i have a dumb phone and not a smart one, I was forced to wait until returning home to discover this information, but seeing the porcelain intact renewed my vigor to further investigate this area. Today's trip of about an hr, combined with the first try of about 2 hrs, has uncovered a nice bunch of old shot gun slugs....

Some in better shape then others but all nice to me :) i believe they date from between 1893-1923, and the next photo begins to explain why..

Though u may not be able to see it very well, the casings are stamped with "REM UFC No. 12 NITRO CLUB" These had production stated above, which is what leads me to believe the slugs were from the shells. All were found within about an 8' circle. So i felt it was fairly safe to assume they were associated with one another.

The coolest find to me though was when i got a signal and began to unearth the find...what i found was sections of a tree or fence that was long ago toppled over and had deteriorated to a few hunks still remebling wood. One of these hunks was chiming loud, so i wipe dthe dirt off and saw this...

And this is after i opened it

Unfortunately i was unable to get a good photo of the lead. While the others all resemble bullets in shape, this one seems to be more round well almost egg shaped really. Wondering if it may be a musket ball rather then a slug, but I've never seen a slug that lodged in lumber before so not sure if it would form a ball.
Obviously I'll be spending a lot of my free time in this little spot in the woods. The best part is it's only about 2 miles form my house :super:

Best of luck out there everyone and of course HH!

The finds i have form this place has once again renewed my 10 yr olds desire to detect so im heading back once again with boy in tow....ill post anything good when we return.

It looks good to me, that's all med to low range targets you found, congrats!

Very nice finds, I have found many canning jar lids but none of them on a jar full of coins. Now wouldn't that be nice :beers:

In my research it has said that the porcelain will glow under a blacklight. Due to the "marble" pattern in it I think it might look quite nice, so I am hoping to find more and of course go buy a blacklight lol. we found about 6 more slugs after returning last night.....and guess where im going now....go ahead guess......

Very cool finds...Always good to have a hunting buddy...Hope he grows to really enjoy the addiction...

HH,
