Seeking advice from Whites MXT users..

Hi: I just received my used MXT today, and I did a lot of practicing on MXT for a few hours today. Later on in coin mode I got an old 1972 quarter down 7 inches, 3 newer dimes,2 pennies, and 1 nickel (the VDI # was : 18-20,and it locked in on that number. My friend had a Garrett Ace 250,and his detector went over that same quarter down 7 inches, and he missed it. he even missed a coppy penny (VDI # 75) down 5 inches. Am I doing good for the first time out with my MXT? I basically practiced for a while, and then I hit these coins,7 coins in all, no trash!! Any advice anyone can give me on the MXT?? Dano123

FANTASTIC Dano!!! Sounds like you're doing just fine with your new MXT. Guess the only "advise" I have is keep doing what you're doing and getting to know and TRUST your machine. The MXT is a great tool and you'll get so many rewards back. In no time,it will pay for itself. Congratulations!:clapping:

Nancy: Yesterday was my 1st day with my MXT . I got 3 dimes, 1 nickel, 1 quarter, and 2 zinc pennies. The V.I.D. was right on! One of the quarters I got was a 1972, down 7 inches, my friend's Garrett ace 250 missed it. I'm goin g to take out the mxt again today. Dano123

The MXT can be swung slower than some detectors which helps in trash. Don't expect the VDI to always lock. If it is jumping around a good number dig. Deeper targets tend to be less locked. Nickels will read over a wider range than just 18-20. I dig many that read 16- 18 - 20. Rob

If the ground is highly mineralized the Ace can't go that deep. A major limitation of the Ace is it has no ground balance. A lot has to do with the operator. In Fl. I found a cent that my friend couldn't detect with his MXT. When I detected it, I knew it was deep. I call him over to see if he could detect it. I learned later that he didn't know how to adj. his MXT.
I can always go over the same area and find things I missed.

I wish you all the luck Dano. Please keep us posted. Like I said, "FANTASTIC"!!!!

Dano, you are doing awesome. That is a great start and the MXT is one of the most rewarding detectors ever made, I have had mine going on 5 years now and have tried more expensive detectors of other brands and I still have always gone back to my MXT. A question for John 'n' in W. VA, when you found the target and your friend did not, did you help him set up the his MXT to see if his MXT could pick it up. I am curious because I have seen one Tejon pick up a deep object and another set up the same way barely get a signal, I was surprised to see one much hotter than another by that much of a degree. HH all.

I'm not surprised he missed it with his ACE 250. 7 in's is not dad for depth. Also he may not have turned up the sensitivity to max. If he were running on factor preset he might well have missed lots more. I have the Ace 250 and sometimes if I think the signal is iffy, I turn up the sensitivity, and sure enough there IS something there.

I also have the MXT. I am also getting used to it. Its VERY powerful. I use mostly the 5.3 coil and have picked off targets at depths of 8in's I know that little coil is capable of more. I found a boy scouts tie clasp at 8in's down at a public school. It was a Wold Pack tie clasp. Cleaned up real nice. Again, if I think the blips I hear be a target calling my name way in the background, I push up the sensitivity. Lots of times I am spot on.

If you don't have the 5.3 coil yet you might think about getting one. I got mine at Clavengers as advertised in Lost Treasure magazine for $125.00 plus $5.00 postage.

Enjoy.

I didn't help him at that time. I wanted to learn more about the MXT. I went over to his place so he could teach me about the MXT. He is like a lot of people that buy MD'ers and never learned how to use them. I was reading everything I could on this forum. I downloaded the manual to learn everything I could. After I thought I had it all down, I stopped by Kellyco and had them show me how to set it up. I went back over to his place. He let me play with his MXT for about an hour and I was having a great time. He didn't understand his GB control. He had his discrimination set too high and never understood the threshold knob. He was a tad deaf and I know that didn't help any. He needed my Ace. Push the on button, find a target and it will blow your brains out.
