Seeing as how Find's does not have a general Minelab forum...

I'll post my ML Advantage find from last weekend here.

My first ever Large Cent, ain't she a Beaut![attachment 56534 lc1.jpg]

It takes a 10X jewelers loupe to make out some detail and the date..1820, my oldest coin too!!! Not very pretty I know.. I don't know why its so beat up but I'll take it!

Hope you all can get out.

Tom

Still a good catch, i have some largies that have been hammered, shot, ground down, cut, and god only knows what else. But it's still nice to see the big green when you open the ground...

you know how much the moderator loves his Musky! HH Randy

Hi Crazyman,

You certainly are set for a variety of conditions with that group!

How's the sensitivity to small stuff with the 5" coil? I use the TS800 a lot and its great on coins in iron but find it just a bit lacking at picking up the smaller stuff in those conditions. Have a new favorite small coil detector combo for that now. (Sorry Moderator!) ;)

Tom

But if you want to borrow a 5-inch for your Musky, (just to take the edge off during your hunts) you know who to ask! :beers: HH Randy

Thanks Randy, I have gotta get out with the Advantage and 12.5" Excelerator and give it a run for the money on the deep stuff. We did not get the rain the weatherman promised (just a sprinkle) and the ground is bone dry. Those fields are like walking on beach sand.. except for the puffs of dust that fly up when you take a step.

Sunday does look good for some more water hunting! Gotta get me a gold fix!

Tom

Bob, do you have a comment you would like to share, or were you just clearing your throat?

Have a good one
Tom

The sensitivity on the 5 inch seems to be about the same as the TS800. The 5 inch does seperate a bit better though in the thick stuff. I also have another toy for the nastiest iron infested sites.

Greetings from a sunny Wales!

Can't fault the Muskateer personally. In the last 2 months I have found a couple of hammered silver coins - 12th/14th Century, modern milled silver (1850's), gold ring, Roman coin (150AD), poachers reel (crica 1830's), part of a pistol (1800's) and numerous other items of interest.

The only down side is that the mounting catch on mine snapped off, so mine is now attahced by a cable tie - anyone know if you can get replacements?

I know you can buy either the V clip for the older versions, or the mounting bracket for the Advantage. I use to have my Advantage mounted under the armrest and found that to be much more comfortable for those long days in the field. However, I recently bought a Sovereign GT straight rod assembly and hooked my Advantage up to it. I find it to be an even better setup than the conversion kit that put it under the armrest. It is a bit more tiring on the wrist, but really well balanced and seems to give me a bit more control over the coil.

If you need some help finding the mounting bracket or clip, give me a shout. HH Randy

I've got the Advantage - and find it no problems in hand held regarding the weight - but I am quite a big lump of a man!

On mine its mounted under the shaft half way down or so - riveted on and the little lip has snapped off, whilst I was replacing the unit following battery charging. Its held on with a cabel tie and my lucky glove at the moment! I need to ring Minelab really. they have always been very good to me service wise. cheers for the contact option - I'll see what Minelab say, but thanks anyway.

I'll try and upload some oif the last 3 weeks finds with Musky!

All for one . . .

get you one of those mounting brackets. Or you might even check with your dealer. Then, it is just a matter of drilling out the existing rivots and remounting the new bracket. While you have it off, you should take a look at mounting the new one under the armrest. You would be surprised how much easier it is to manuver the coil.

If you run into a snag getting a bracket, let us know and someone here might be able to help you out. HH Randy

A straight rod setup makes it a breeze to swing all day. I'm a hipmount fan myself as once I set it up I just slide the housing behind my back plus I pinpint in the disc. mode. I'm thinking of mounting my original Musky-X on a GT straight rod also. Heres my Advantage mounted on a Whites straight rod.
