Yesterday I went on my first seeded hunt in almost 25 years - I used a 12 khz program that is very similar to what I use when hunting rentals, except for this hunt there were period CW bullets, round balls, and some tokens along with silver coins. I decided to eliminate all Notch except 00-38 which took care of most foil and can slaw, but I did end up digging a few pulltabs and slaw anyways.
There were 3 hunts that lasted 45 minutes each, and after the third hunt we tallied all of our finds and had a drawing for those who found tokens. I scored two tokens which got the 2 pair of White's headphones, a nice Gator digger with sheath, a Fisher finds pouch (gave it to my night hunting partner), and a 6" digital caliper!
8 silver quarters, 24 silver dimes, 2 round balls, and 10 or 11 CW era bullets including a Gardner or two was part of the finds!
The Deus did well - I had NO EMI whatsoever from other machines, and was furiously whipping the coil back and forth in search of the goods. The first field we hunted was fairly trashy, but my night-hunting partner unearthed a men's 10K white gold class ring (unrelated to the hunt!) which stoked him for the rest of the day! I remember all of us were busy searching and digging, and all of a sudden I hear "Class ring!"
Didn't know what to expect in the depth department for this hunt, and I forgot to ask...Near the end of hunt #1 I got a squirrelly signal that turned out to be a deep silver quarter, which may have not been a seeded item - turns out most items were either sunbakers or less than 2" deep, which wasn't really a challenge, but more of a crapshoot! Almost any detector would hit these targets, but I guess it's all about fun being had by all!
At the end of the second hunt I did something to my back which limited my range of motion for the rest of the day. This morning I could hardly walk, and ended up going to an urgent care facility. Thank goodness it's only a sprained muscle - I figured it was much worse! Was feeling better by later afternoon today, and got back up to the park to locate a single Merc that was missed.
My dad went earlier today and found a couple Mercs from the last field, right on the boundary of the hunt area. He was sure to rub that in well, torqued back or not!
Most of what people were using at this hunt was the venerable AT Pro - Garrett really has a winner with that machine for what you pay for! It's fast enough out of the box with the stock coil to handle some trashy areas, and with the 5 X 8 coil it gets better! I'm still waiting (as are many of us) for XP to unleash a small coil for us "trash waders" to see what's hiding in the iron...we patiently await, XP!
