Second time out, second ring.

I was able to get a little hunting in between the rain drops today. I went to a local zoo/park where some silver and wheaties had been found in the past. I wanted to see what I had missed with the E-trac and get some more time in on the CTX. They had just aerated the grass and the ground was littered with hundreds of mud turds since it had been sprinkling all morning. Every few feet required scraping a couple of inches of mud off my boots, so it was a muddy freaking mess. I just had hit a clad spill, a couple of pennies and a dime when my buddy called me to see how things were going. As I was talking to him, I scanned the ground where the spill was and got a 12/47 12/48 reading on the CTX, I figured it was a clad quarter from the spill. After I hung up from the call, I cut a shallow plug and low and behold, a silver ring falls outta the plug. I couldn't believe it, it was the last thing I expected. I figured after 2 hours of stopping around in the mud hole of a park it was time to leave. It's a size 10 weighing in at 7 grams. My first ring was a religious type that rang at 12/38 12/39 at 6" down at an old high school. I was running Minelab's stock high trash mode with combined tones and high trash recovery, auto sens +3

Nice, Dan... :)

Did you get enough time hunting in the high trash mode to be able to tell a difference in iron trash ident compared to the FC mode?

Especially with the wet ground, the rusty iron really should have been tempting you with it's 'siren call'.
:)

Yes I did, that made all the difference in the world, I had no problem with the iron tones coming thru and the high Fe readings behaving correctly :) This old park has more iron than the high school I hunted Sunday. My hats off to you guys who have this machine figured out, it certainly is a horse of a different color compared to the Etrac.

Dan, that's awesome.
Thank you for the kind words, and you are most welcome. :)
And especially glad it's working better for you, now...

Indeed the CTX is quite a bit different from the Etrac. It's really not an 'Etrac on steroids' as some guess.

I think a lot of the folks having the most trouble getting the CTX to work for them are trying to shoe-horn the CTX into their previous ET experiences.
It's really a different machine, and needs learned as such.

Some things are similar, and help...like the ID numbers...pretty much identical.
But's there's still a lot of differences and additions.

Keep posting great finds, and have fun!
:)

I should have asked more questions when I had my first CTX, I just figured it's love of iron was a design flaw rather than operator error(couldn't be my fault) :) anyway, water under the bridge and I'm on the right track now. I'll swallow me pride and seek counsel from now on.

Dan that's a good one things well only get easier the more you use it the next time you get a good deep coin try running several different modes over it to see which one gives you the best and clearest signal then you can fine tune it to those spots and not have to worry that your settings are not optimum . sube

Yep, the CTX is very simple to use, but it takes time and patience to master! You are well on your way to mastering it now!
