Second Machine (UPDATE)

This is an update to an earlier post I made on getting a second machine. (my first machine is an Excalibur 1000)

First, thanks all for your advice. I took it all in and other factors. My final two choices were the Elite or GT, with GT leading the list by a bit.

Yesterday, while on eBay, I saw a new Elite up for bid. This is an new, out-of-box machine with warrenty card and the works. The bid was $335 with 4 hours left. Well, I tossed in a bid and it took. I figured since bidding on ebay is usually done within minutes of the closing, that bid would never stick as the last Elite that was sold was A) used B) no warrenty and went for $160 more than the bid I put in.

Well, to my surprise, the bid stood. I am now a proud owner of a new Minelab Elite and I paid $250 less than Kellyco is selling it for.

I will now be checking the forum for suggestings and modification hints. If you want to toss a few my way, I would love it.

What comes with it, Bear??

Coil size, battery pack (which kind), meter (stock or modified) ??

And where do you plan to use it??

Actually, still trying to get ALL the details. This is a NIB (new in box) item so my guess is it is the standard stock items. Since it is new, it still has warrenty card I can use.

The description does talk about a Tornado coil.

I will be using it mainly at the beach. I have my Excalibur when I want to hit the surf and will probably use that most often.

For the beach, you might want an S-12 or WOT for depth and coverage.

You will probably rear mount the box, and leave the meter at home.

You might want to get a straight rod for better balance. Sure helps with the GT.

You will probably want to get the rechargeable ni-mh pack.

For beach hunting, that's about it.

Thanks Art.

One reason I went with something other than an Excalibur is so I could change coils and the WOT is one I have wanted for awhile.

Rear mounting is probably the best for me.

Would love a straight rod for both my Excalibur and Elite now.

And the battery pack is also on the list.

I will probably use the meter, just to start with so I can learn, play. But I think you are right, it will end up in a box in my car so I have it if needed.

For now at least, extras are gonna be few and far machine. Used up ALL my atta-boys just to get the machine. My only hope is to find a few nice rings that my wife likes or that I can sell.

I know the feeling.

Would like to try a few more coils, but that's a lot of bucks.

You should not have any problems getting used to it. Just keep it dry.

first order of business when I get it is to look at ways to keeping it dry. I do not need it waterproof but want to make sure if I do get hit by an unexpected big wave the detector will keep on ticking.

If you're going to get anywhere near the water, cover it with a baggie. A simple splash from your scoop is enough to render it useless. Just my .02, but I know because I've done it. ;)

That's gonna be tough.

A big wave is going to require waterproofing.

You should find plenty of guys on the beach forum who have devised ways to make them spray resistant, or flat out waterproof.
