Second Hunt With The Nox 600 And More Silver

Thanks everyone for the amazing information and for taking the time to write it all down. Today I went back to the same spot that I had iron falsing and now I know the difference in tones. The main green is littered with iron too but there is a distinct difference in tone that was mentioned in your responses. The tone is higher and more abrupt. I walked into the spot where I found the 44 merc and got a nice tone and 24-26 vdi using park 2 with the minimum sweep and recovery speeds and a sensitivity of 22. Amazingly I got my first seated in many years, an 1873. There are a lot of signals with park 2 so I tried field 2 and it is awesome. There is less lag time with responses and signals are narrowed down more than in park. I hunted with field 2 and then switched to park 2 to see if the signal is still there. They are similar but field 2 is easier on my ears :) I then found a 1902 barber quarter and later on an 1899 Indian down 9 or 10". The compact or watch or photo frame was from another area and was at a similar depth. I do not find much silver anymore and never found a lot to begin with so finding silver 2 days in a row has made me a believer of all the rave reviews I had read and seen about the Equinoxes :)

Wow! Nicely done!!
I prefer Field 2 as well. The tones are the key. They are very descriptive. I hunt in 50 tones and use both the factory disc settings or hunt in "all metal" with the iron volume turned down to 1. I also turned the target tones up to 25 for non ferrous and as low as it goes for ferrous. This achieves the largest "tonal spread" between iron and non ferrous targets. It really makes the high conductors stand out.

Congrats on the awesome finds!

Dean

Thanks a bunch Dean for the compliment and for the excellent tips! I'll have to try it out.

Congrats on a super hunt!

Thanks Earthlypotluck and great advice on your profile signature!

Some of the coins cleaned up with a baking soda paste.

Almost appears as if the coins were in a fire.

You're spot on now ! Whenever you find silver coins looking like that you know you're doing something right . That oxidation makes me think they were found around some old, difficult soil . Nicely done .

Thanks,I had hunted the area in the past with different detectors and never caught any silver. I think the ground definitely was difficult for other detectors. As for fire I am not sure but I think fill might have been dumped on top at one time and some cinders were mixed in since I found some when digging.

Some sweet silver there!

Thanks guys! It has been a great year! I love it. The only problem is my fishing buddies miss me :)

Really great results! Those coins look like many, many I've found. Difficult soil & dampness often have them coming out that way in my area. Add a ferrous item to the mix and the staining can be black and reddish. Swampy water silver often looks the same. If you are keeping the coins, light electrolysis - say 20 - 30 seconds at 350 - 400 milliamperes (eddy current - Bubbles appear) then a quick swipe with a chamoise will have them looking like normally found in circulation. More of an even gray, no shine. There is more to getting the techniques just right (baking soda and a clean anode). Try at your own risk but I've got this down.
Congrats!

Thanks a bunch Everyone and I have some alligator clips on order YTcoinshooter ;-) Thanks!
