Second copper tonight!

:yo:Got my new shovel delivered today so as soon as I got home from work, I decided to go out back and do some "relic" hunting, and see how the shovel worked. Put the v3i in relic mode, ground balanced and off I went. Field was pretty silent, so I bumped up the gain right to the edge of being unstable and started swinging. Few minutes into it I hit a good signal and decided to try out the shovel...7 inches down....dug the hole....and found an old copper rivet.

COOL....so off I went again....about this time it started snowing. So I thought I should go to the edge of the field, which is closer to a small stream.....and hunt there. Just as I got to the edge of the field, I got a coin/button signal that really hit hard. 4 inches down....starting to snow harder....pinpoint, dig the hole ....then scan the pile....used the pinpointer and right there before my eyes was my second old copper coin.

I grabbed it and hurried back to the house to get out of the snow. It is pretty badly corroded....and i didnt want to rub it, so I have it in olive oil and will let it soak and clean for a couple days and then try to see if I can read anything on it. I am really enjoying this new machine....and I appreciate ya'alls help in answering my questions. If there is anything that can be read off the coin, I will post pics and let you know what it is. I just found a sweet huntin spot....:detecting: by the way....I love the shovel too!!!!

I hope the coin will show some details after a good soak. I can't believe you have snow today, here in the south the sun came out after the rain stopped and we had a nice evening.:clapping:

ok after a few hours in olive oil, details are starting to emerge....here are the pics I have so far .....looks like a 1774 or 1775 so far.

It is starting to look good John......

on the front side i can see the distinctive head and shoulder bust......so far I cant see anything on the back. I will take it to work in the morning and see if I can decipher anything using a high powered microscope....3 or 4 days in olive oil with mild cleaning should show me all of the details that it will be able to provide.......right? Stay Tuned!

Nice finds :)

the details are starting to emerge....but the date is unreadable as of yet.

I pounded the same area where I found this one.... tonight....but due to the moisture....the high power lines gave me a lot of falsing and I didnt find much other than pieces of brass/copper shards...pots....whatever they were. The hunt is the thrill for me....still waitin on that first silver coin to surface.....it is an area I plan to hunt hard...much history here....and I plan to dig it.

This copper was found less than a mile from where I found the first one. I just got a 1800's circa map of my town...now its game on! Woot Woot!
