Second chance to get it right

Okay, this question is nothing new. You've been at this :detecting: for a while and you've seen the pitfalls of ALL the detectors.

Which detector would YOU prefer to start with now? You know the learning curve involved with each of the units and their capabilities, keep it at or under $1000.00.

Currently no chance to detect ANYTHING in Minnesota except four feet of frost on land and 20 inches of ice on the water...

I would start with the 250 and work my way up but would always keep the 250. I have eight expensive detectors right now and my 250 gets the most use. Should be self-explanatory.

Once you master it, you can upgrade to a machine that will size the object before you dig it. You can also sell the 250 at a good return, as they are in demand.

The Ace is all you need...get a small coil also. Nothing beats the Ace/small coil combo in any kind of trash at separating targets. In most land hunting that is the key to 90% of the good targets. After trying all the high end detectors...I now have just an Ace 250. My PP'er cost more than my detector.

The ace 250 is popular..:)
Thats what I started with about a month or so
ago. Well, I consider it starting, as one machine
I had years ago was junk, and basically useless.
$1000? You can get a pretty fancy machine for
that price. You can buy 5 ace 250's for a kilobuck.
At this point I couldn't see spending big bucks for
a machine. The way I see it, the ace 250 will find
"most" of what the top of the line machine will.
No fancy bells and whistles like say the 2500, but
it should still make noise on most of the same targets
a top line machine would. You just get less info, and
probably dig a bit more trash. Maybe lose a small bit
of depth. To me, if the ace 250 can find 85%-90% ?? of
what a top line machine will, and it probably does, being
many hunt for coins, etc that aren't too deep, spending
another 800+ ?? bucks to get that extra 10-15 % wasn't
really worth it to me. So I felt with the price, the
ace 250 was the best bang for the buck. It has a learning
curve, but it's small compared to some machines.
You basically turn it on and walk. All ya got to do is
get used to the pinpointing, and what bleeps mean what,
and you are off to the races. I still kinda drool on that
top line 2500 though..neat lookin machine. I like the extra
size info it gives. But I don't realistically see buying
one anytime soon. Pretty good chunk of change for just
a casual dirt digger like me. :smoke:

THAT may be the best piece of advice I'll get! My "second career" hasn't started yet, maybe I can find a job I actually like!:spin:
