This hobby is going to cause me to become ill. Went out for a quick 45 minute hunt before supper and I found 2 wheats and a merc. On the way home I looked at the dime (no glasses) and it sure looked like 1916 s or d. About a month ago I found another 1916 that was s or d. Well just like the last time, I drive home hoping for the best only to be disappointed once I find my glasses. Nothing wrong with the 1916s but!!!!!!!

PJ-------"Been there, done that"--Still good to get 'em.---Congrats on both 1916's (D or not)!-------Del

wow! Didn't realize the 1916 D was worth so much. Any1 no why its' mintage was so low? The war maybe?

Although most commonly referred to as the Mercury Dime, the coin does not depict the Roman messenger god, nor does it

contain any mercury. The obverse figure is a depiction of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, a classic symbol of liberty and

freedom. This is same concept" as the "Indian Head. It is actually a representation of Liberty wearing an Indian

headdress,not an actual Indian.

Also there are no Mercury Dimes that bear the dates of 1922, 1932, or 1933 so if you find one I might speculate that it is

worth a small fortune and you'll be p00ping your pants and screaming out with those MD lungs,"I'm going to Acapulco!"

1916D

Easily worth $20,000

You made me smile PJ! I've only found one 1916 merc. I too thought I saw a "D" on mine and left the park to go home and check it out only to find out it wasn't a "D". Still a good find. WTG!

Even though it would have been SWEET to find that Elusive 16-d Merc, you still got a Great Find to add to your Collection, so you really can't be too disappointed. Congrats on the finds and Good Luck and HH on your next hunts.
