Seawater Setting Question

2 years with my CTX3030 so far and I still have one puzzling question and or concern. For people like me who primarily hunt beaches the Seawater mode is a blessing, but 've also heard that you are NOT suppose to use it only if the CTX is fully submerged. I just want to get some opinions from people who turn Seawater mode off while hunting on the beach, do you find more targets this way? I have tried to turn it off but when I get close to the surf it will really chatter. Any help, tips are greatly appreciated.

I leave my seawater setting on in or out of the water. I have used the seawater mode while relic hunting. It seemed to help when I am in manual sensitivity to cut down on the chatter. The CTX will find deep targets regardless of how it is set up I just like to try different settings when I locate a deep target to see for myself what may or may not work in certain situations. If I hunted the beach everyday I would leave seawater on. HH :minelab:

There are times I can hunt without chatter, with Seawater turned off but those are rare occasions totally submerged in absolutely glass like conditions in the Gulf....

Hi D Gold,

From what I gathered during development etc it's use is beneficial when the coil is submerged to several inches in the shallows and when fully submerged.
From much personal testing I would agree with that. It does help stabilise against surf breaks and in general smoother operation.

I hope this helps.

I've tried it today with it off, it's just too unstable even when the manual sensitivity is brought way down. I'll stick with it on. I found two rings, both Stainless steel...very disappointed they weren't gold or platinum.

I hunted at the beach recently in the wet sand and in the surf without submerging the control box, I hunted with it off as the folks at Minelab who DESIGNED the mode recommend. I found a large silver and a large gold ring in the WET SAND at the edge of the surf, coil going in and out of the surf but not the CONTROL BOX. Usually the development team makes recommendations for a reason so I would tend to listen to them, now will it probably work with it on, yes, but at what degradation to its ability to find or identify targets when it's not necessary. Each extra process a detector has to perform takes power away from detecting and correctly identifying targets.

I found that the detector acts a bit funny in salt water mode chipping tones not normally heard during a hunt. When checked in another mode the phantom targets aren't there! This is in the shallows in and out of the water! I don't use it.
