The only time I could get in any swingin' Memorial Day weekend was for a couple hours Friday evening. I decided to revisit a spot my Buddy and I had hit a couple years ago. It is an 18th century house that was being rennovated and I got permission from the new owner at the time. Last week I noticed that an old barn type structure had been torn down and an area of ground had been disturbed.
When we hit the area a couple years ago my buddy had foud a flying eagle, two washingtons in the same hole, two pre-CW eagle Infantry buttons, a few mercs and Rosies and a couple silver rings. I found an eagle infantry cuff button, a Barber dime, a half reale, a few IHs, and a military academy button.
Friday I found a five-wheat spill, a 1907O Barber dime, an 1891 seated dime, a broach, and a tiny eagle button/device.
I'd like opinions on the last two items. The "broach" seems to have a gold layer over a brass backing. The surface layer sure looks to be gold and where it's bent backwards you can see the separation in the "gold" layer and the backing. The button is very tiny (see the picture next to the penny). It's shaped kind of like a checker piece with a ridge around the edge. Inset on the face you can see a Federal eagle with the shield on its breast (sorry for the poor photography job). Any ID on the button or if the seperate layer on the broach might be gold? Thanks for sharing.

Awesome finds ! Congrats on the seated dime !

THE BROOCH MORE THAN LIKELY IS GOLD GILT-
IF NOT GOLD ,
STILL YOU HAVE SOME VERY NICE FINDS --NICE JOB
THEY DID A LOT OF GILT WORK BACK IN THOSE DAYS ,HH-CURT

Congrats on the great finds  91 was the last year for seated dimes. The barber is in very nice shape also.

Good stuff!
I'm thinking that eagle thingy is a broken saw nut. The decorative nut that holds a handle on a hand saw. Many of them had eagles on them and were inset like that.
90% on that one.
Congrats on the old silver!!!!

Thanks for the feedback guys. Neal, you had me thinking there, but notice the leaf designs on the reverse (other photo). The construction is definately like a button - even has the remains of a fastener/eyelet on the reverse.
