Seated Quarter! / Nicer Key Date Wheat Penny! / Barber

Well-known member
Finds are from the past couple weeks with most coming this past Saturday.
Saturday morning I headed north in my home state to an old school site and got the 1877s seated quarter.
It was about a 10 inch signal somewhat on edge with a big square nail spike close to it. I must have nicked the front but it was difficult to center being
on edge and next to iron so I don't feel too bad about hitting it.
It was my first seated quarter ever. I also got barber on Saturday also and several other silver dimes.
Late Sunday afternoon I got out close to home and first pulled the nice V nickel, Buffalo, Merc, couple wheats and then the sharp 1914D! I couldn't believe my luck on that one. The date was plain as day right out of the hole.
Another favorite find I pulled a couple weeks ago was a very old crotal bell with a square top and part of the bracket still attached.
NEL Storm coil was used for all finds.

Congratulations on nailing your 1st Seated Quarter! That key 14D is sweet as well. Like the trade token most, they're always my favorite. Nice digs Dave!

Thanks Mike!
at first I thought I was looking at the eagle wings of a worn standing liberty quarter like had so many times until it hit me I got a seated quarter.

Congrats on finding your first Seated Quarter !

Strange thing ... I've only ever found two Seated Quarters - ( 3 or 4 years apart from each other ) and both of them were also 1877's.

That’s the kind of stuff you can find with targeted and intelligent hunting using FBS, while still cutting the garbage to a minimum! It’s tough to argue with continuous results. Excellent review Dave, very cool stuff to look at!

Thanks E-Trac-Ohio,
Yes, That must be a common year.

Thanks for the comments IDX.
I have saw what Explorers, eTrac and CTXs with FBS technology can do over the years.
You hit it on the head with cutting garbage to a minimum.
I chase a lot of iffy deep targets but the superior id system and sounds allows me to be more efficient
with my digging choices.

Wow Dave! Now that is an amazing haul! HUGE congrats on your first Seated quarter. Now we each have one! LOL That 1914-D is flat out awesome. Incredible condition and a super hard date to pull out. Looks like that Storm is really working for you. Can't wait to see what you find next! ATB Greg

Thanks Greg,
Yes, I just gave that 1914 D a light wash with soap and water. It has a lot of details and I am curious what grade it actually is if it got professionally cleaned.
I have found one other 14 D a few years ago but that was so worn and corroded you had to get the light perfect to even see it.
That seated quarter as completely unexpected. Right before that I hit a 1930s merc about 6 inches deep about 10 feet from the quarter.

Great saves there and the coins you found have amazing detail . . . soil was kind to them for sure.

I'd consider getting the 1914D graded and slabbed . . . very nice coin

Andy

Thanks Andy,
The 1914D and the V were found at the same site at a depth of about 5 inches. The dirt is really fine and somewhat sandy there.
I will probably get that 14D graded and slabbed.
