Season opener.

With spring like weather some streams have started to open up, but I figured I was going to end up river 'tectin in the cobble fields if I was going to get any time in. The sun was shining and it was a blistering 45defF, almost halter weather in the northern climes. Some poor souls believe the Swallows returning to Capistrano is a yearly bellwether event, but indeed, when the Qu

Thanks for the post Bill. Your post made me feel like I was right there with you, learning the X-70's Prospect potential. And, those were some nice finds. Great season opener.

The -2 - +2 TID reading on the ear ring is lower than I would have imagined. Makes me wonder if I would have written it off as trash. How big is it, as compared to say, a dime?

Interesting comments about the threshold levels, in their relationship to depth. My hearing might be worse than yours as I run mine at 5 all the time. Either that or your headphones are better? Anyway, today I dropped it down to 4 to see how it might affect the audio response on accepted targets. Although I could still barely hear it, I noticed that all the target responses were definitely weaker. I had been under the impression that the setting on the Threshold would just affect the level of the threshold tone. But it appears to me that it works as a volume control for Threshold and audio response. Is that similar to what you found?

Again, great start to a new season. HH

Congrats on the jewelry, You are facing the same problem as me with low ID s.

Even if the ID nr jumps a bit, with mine the tone seem to hold even if the numbers jumps alot. When I use prospect I have the 70 in 4 or multitones in disc to have more info when crosschecking. Normally when disc hunting, i use 2 tones.

50% better depth is very good and those finds are not easy to find at all, 6" is deep.

Regards.

Hi Randy,

The threshold I was referring to was only in Prospecting mode. Even with threshold turned all the way down, I get constant ground noise in Prospecting mode. I don't use the threshold in Coins mode much as I prefer silent search. I weighed the two items, earring is 0.41g & the necklace is 6.39g. You are right that these targets are easy to discount and skip over, if there is heavy foil you have to be really dedicated to dig it all on a chance to find these items.

Thanks bjorn,

I will have to try the 4 tones out next time.

Great story and I appreciate the mention of the Prospect mode. This is the only mode I haven't given an honest try. I will have to hit the freshwater beach here and give that mode a try. Thanks for the info and ya made a few nice finds!!

Top stuff Bill.
The Prospecting mode is good huh!
Even when I coin hunt nowdays I run in Prospecting mode as the opener.
Because, there are often nuggets where I coin hunt so I switch and chop and change between Prospecting and coin mode so as not to miss a thing. Great post, looks like Prospecting mode is the way to go for jewllry perhaps. Look forward to hearing more on the subject.
Cheers.
