I just got back from an "old folks" picnic:thumbup: I knew there was going to be nothing much to do, albeit, I won part of a cash drawing ($35.00) not bad for a one dollar ticket. There were over 300 people there. So to entertain myself, I took my camera with me, glad I did. I got there in the morning and saw this guy looking for breakfast. It is a Great Blue Heron, they are native to Michigan and other parts known...enjoy............NGE

I would be in hog heaven if I took a picture as good as yours. I have just really started taking wildlife pictures of water birds...started yesterday at a small park with a duck pond. Unfortunately, my pictures did not turn out very well, but I will be back there tomorrow to try to do better. After I am done with taking the duck pictures, I want to branch out and visit places with birds like the one you posted here. You could not have posted this picture at a better time...it lights a fire under me to get back out there.

Do you have anymore water bird pictures that you took yesterday? Kelley (Texas) :)

I remember seeing quite a few of the blue herons when I used to live in TN. I saw them along the Cumberland River, as well as Land Between the Lakes NRA. Great photo nge.:clapping: There is a white heron or crane that hunts in a man made pond on campus that I will have to take a pic of sometime. Also some geese and ducks.

Kelly, This fowl would not stand still very long, so I ended up taking over 35 pics of him which did not turn out well. I have another where he was playing "peek a boo " with me on a high bank and his head sticking up above at times, I finally got a pic of his long neck and head when he stuck it back up again. It is sized same as this pic, but this forum kept telling me it was too large of a file. I will try and put it up as a reply.........nge

That is one smart water bird. Thanks for posting this picture, I like it. Kelley (Texas) :)
