searching 1880 church with ID Edge Question

I have secured permission to hunt about 2 acres with an old church 1880 still standing on the property and a home next to the church. The church has been used as a junk store for the past 20 years and they did a lot of work of repairing junk on the outside of the church so I expect their to be a lot of iron trash. It was also was the site of a log cabin church prior to 1880 church being built.

I have an ID Edge that I purchased several months ago. I have about five hour of experience with the ID Edge and coin hunting. My previous experience many years ago was with a Gold Bug searching for gold..

I am thinking about getting a five or six inch coil, since it seems to be the best coil for this type of search based on some posts on this forum.

Any ideas on the type of strategy to employ would be helpful. I am thinking of just setting the edge up for older coins and concentrating on that for my first careful search. Then go back and search the area again digging most targets. I will probably employ this strategy on a smaller section say 10 x 10 feet and see what each strategy reveals.

If any of you have better ideas please let me know. Also any suggested settings will also be helpful. I am glad the people who made the ID Edge were better engineers than manual writers and not the other way around. The manual sucks for a newbie to the hobby. Speaking as a newbie, Michael Chaplan's, "The Urban Treasure Hunter" is a very good book that helps you locate good sites. It has opened up my eyes to see back into history when driving around. So far I have now two sites (and a probable 3rd) with written permission to search all within 10 - 30 miles of my home. So now it is time to put down the books and get some field work done.

Thanks in advance for any advice on the church site search strategy and settings.

Thanks about 6" coil info. Yes, I have been reading all these forums posts for the past several months and actually creating my own ID Edge manual by pasting them in a word document.

The nice thing about the Edge, it will hunt beside a CZ and no talking between units.
Learn it, its a good little unit, they all have their good and bad points, no perfect unit.
