Search Ground Filter/Analysis ground filter

What is the difference and what do you use to hunt. I am reading that a 5-7Hz is the best for depth and smaller targets but I didn't know there were two different filter ajustments.

From the owners manual page 33: What adjustments are best for you in your ground, I can't tell you that, but I use 7.5 High Pass

Ground Filter -

No filter is the deepest in all soil conditions. There are 2 filter adjustments if you have a VX3, but 8 if you have a V3i. People will have to let us know which detector they have. Either put it in your signature or type it each time you post. Which do you think is easier?

sorry I see there are two settings or two different areas on the V3i to program folters..Ground Filter/Analysis ground filter are they the same would I set the filter the same on each one?

If you check match the search and analysis screens will have the same settings. If you uncheck it you can have different settings for each mode, search and analysis.

Thanks for the info you are really helpful...How does having different settings on the filters help with the way the detector reacts to targets. If you use different filters one for the gound and one to analysis the ground would you use different filters or keep them the same?

Without having a reason for changing to another filter, I'd say just match the search filter.

Now, on the other hand, why would you want to use different filters? Here's an example:

Say you have a very fast sweep speed and are using the 12.5 band filter. You walk at a pretty good pace and cover a lot of ground. You just got a signal!
Now you switch into analysis mode and slowly sweep over the target. By slowing the sweep speed WAY down, you can take advantage of the 5 band filter.

With that said, you can just match the search filter and go at it.

Something I've seen mentioned on the forums a lot and I've put it to memory, I'll repeat it here (for my sake if no one elses!)

When you get to a site, bury a coin at 8" or so and go through the filters selections (and other settings) to get the best possible detector response. Now, I understand this doesn't answer your question Lowboy, but putting some practical info together with the theory will help us to understand the settings and consequential detector operation (I'm hoping :detecting: )

Thanks for the info you guys make this real easy for me to make ajustments and hunt and understand and not give up so far my program is really working with all of your help where I live the V3i is doing way better then I ever thought.

I have found in my dirt that 10.5 works really well I can swing a bit faster and I get good depth. Now I have had to make other ajustments to have the program come to life...but as I have read you can over ajust or under ajust or get one thing right only to change another and ruin a good program. So you have to really have the basics down to know how to take a program and make it work and then tweek it a bit more to see if you can get that program to proform just a bit more.

Gundog got the main reason in my opinion. ROB
