Search coil help

Greetings All !!!
Just a quick question from me to all of you concerning a search coil purchase. I want to get another search coil for my ATP and am torn between the 4 1/2" Super Sniper and the 6X9 concentric coils. I know they are used for different purposes, but if you could only buy one of these, which one would it be? Thanks and stay safe.

BigCat Daddy,

I'd like to buy both but I've got so much other stuff going on now, I can do only one right now. Which one of the two do you use more? Thanks. . . .

I've only used the 6 x 9 so far. Probably won't get around to the Sniper till we get some rain to soften up this concrete we used to call dirt around here. I got the 6 x 9 for use IN the water as it ignores those psky bottlecaps. It really depends on where and how you intend to hunt. If you've got some small trashy places with some steel structures around go with the Sniper. If you intend to hunt a little more wide open spaces with only moderate trash or in the water, get the 6 x 9. Both are great coils, you just need to figure out what kinda spots you most intend to hunt.

Speaking of search coils. I wonder if Garrett will make the Scorpion coils for the AT Pro? I do not care for the 4". I would rather have the 3X7 DD. It is a good all around coil. Thanks for looking and Happy Trails....Z

I would sure like to try something smaller myself but also would have a hard time deciding. The target unmasking/separation is pretty good with the stock coil so it would be really interesting to see how a smaller coil with work in the high trash areas.
Not of much help because I can see advantages to both :)

I think BCD summed it up pretty well. I would just like to add that if you like to hunt large open spaces, why not consider the 9" x 12" concentric coil. It still maintains great depth, but has the advantage of covering a large area faster then a smaller coil. I think your decision to buy which coil should be based on your own metal detecting preferences. If a good part of your hunting includes playgrounds, hunts along chain link fences or real trashy areas, get the small sniper coil. If you like to hunt large open areas, get the larger coil. hope this helps......

[size=medium]Guys,
Thanks for the responses. Yeah, it is a harder decision than I first thought it would be. I've been saving up all my clad finds to date this year ($108.00 total). I'm gonna add that to what I had set aside for the sniper coil and - get both the 9x12 and 4.5 Sniper coils !!!

Can the standard 6.5 x 9 coil that comes with the Ace 150 be used on the AT Pro? This may save me from buying an unneeded coil.

Thanks

You can't use any coil not specifically made for the AT Pro. Because it's a 15 KHz detector, you can't use anything else. I've seen many adverts for coils for the ACE 150/250 as well as others just for the 350. The 150/250 (if I remember correctly operate at the freq, but the 350 is 8.0 or 8.5 KHz. Check out Garrett's Hobby web page for the various detectors, but I'm sure you can't mix and match. I know they look the same, but they won't work right and you can damage some of the circuitry in the detector if you do. If it's any consolation, I can't do that with most of my older Garrett's either. The old "Groundhog" models were 15KHz too, and none of those coils would work with the Deepseeker models and vice versa.

What is the best one to use for waist deep water ? The stock coil seems to be too bulky, especially with wave action. Any feedback on this from anyone?
