Seal the gap between the coil and cover??

alex

New member
What do you thing, if to seal the gap between the coil and cover with outdoors flexible sealant, That way, no sand and dirt would get inside the coil cover. Will it work?

Alex

I do a lot of beach hunting and that's what I did. Some guys actually epoxy the bottom of the coil with a marine epoxy.

..but here's a picture of his coil and the epoxy he (and a couple of other guys) use instead of a coil cover. I'm planning on doing that for next summer. Right now I use some rubberized silicone; I basically filled the coil cover with it and put it on the coil. So far it hasn't caused me any problems and looks like it's holding up very well.

Will it stay permanently? I mean selicon and epoxy?

I've never used epoxy on my coil, but I'd have to assume it'll wear over time. Max mentioned that he recoats it every so often. As far as the silicone is concerned, the stuff I used is rubberized. If you should decide to take the cover off, the silicone can be removed with a pull or a little rubbing; it's fairly easy to remove. I've got mine siliconed for about 5 months now, and I haven't had any problems with falsing so I'm certain it's holding up well. Should I start to run into any unusual problems at all, I'll take it off. Like I said, I'm planning on doing the epoxy job in time for next spring. Looks like a great idea. It'll protect the bottom of the coil and eliminates the posibility of something getting between the coil and the cover (which is possible using silicone)

Went to the beach today (5 hours of BLEAK!) Anyway, my machine started going crazy on me. I ripped the coil cover off, cleaned off the bottom and the problem went away. How ironic after my last post. The coil cover is now history. Max, you'll be happy to know I plan on expoying the coil real soon

Were did you get your most goodies from?? Dry sand OR Wet sand and Water?
I leave on beach in Brooklyn, ny. I bougth exp2, and the season is over. Wonna be ready for next season

The season is not necessarily over. First of all, the ground is not frozen yet so the parks are still huntable. The beach is always an option. Last winter, I picked up some gold (didn't have the Exp II then). Some waders, a down coat, ski mask and good gloves and you're set. :) Just need to watch the tides and look for some good Nor'easters to pass through.

Send me an email... BTW, I grew up in Brooklyn (on Long Island now).

Hi Joe G
i live on Brighton beach: ocean parkway. May be 50 feet away from the beach.
I agree the season isn't over. Every time I go to hunt, I find at least $2 cash.
Today we have first snow in new york.

How do you watch the tides? (may be the schedule on-line)
