Sea Hunter xl 500

I have an xl 500 and am new to metal detecting with several questions. First, what are the pros and cons to this detector? Secondly, while detecting in wetsand and salt water I'm noticeing pitch changes in the threshold volume, is this charactaristic of Pulse detectors? Any suggestions on settings. Lastly, if I set the threshold to where I barely here a tone, the needle and sound pulsate inconsistantly. If threshold is set to a higher setting, say 4-6, I get a steady pulse. Mahalo for any feedback. Aloha from Hawaii.
