SE Should I get the Pro Coil?

New member
I'm still learning my SE and doing some light MD but plan to get out more. My problem now is good locations but doing what I can. I only use the 8" Minelab coil and 5" Excel Coil on my SE and like them. The standard coil has been put away a while ago. My question is would it we worth it to get the Pro Coil I keep hearing good things about? It looks a bit bigger how does it stack up with the 8"? Will I have separation issues like the standard coil in trashy areas? Is it worth it?

Thanks

The pro coil seperates well... but dont be fooled a smaller coil is always best in TRASHY areas. If the area you are hunting verys greatly then the coil will give you more depth as you move away from those extreme areas. Open areas you could see a couple of inchs. Im using the SEF .... another good choice, but sometimes trying to get too much depth with a bigger coil will more often do more harm than good. You tend to pick up deep iron which puts you coil in NULL decreasing depth.

I agree with everything Dew says and I use the Pro almost all the time. I have tried the 8" and get great depth, but for me, it is just to darned slow hunting. It is really hard for me to swing a smaller loop after being used to the 11" Pro. That is my loop of choice for the SE.

I use the X-12 primarily but always carry the X-8 in my back pack I use both allot and they both work well. The pro is also a good coil and I primarily use it on the Safari. But I think the X-12 is a perfect larger coil.

I recently owned the Pro Coil and although it was very light and seemed to pinpoint well, I had a problem with phantom signals. The sounds were solid both ways but there wouldn't be anything found. This happened about 5 times for each target actually found. I sold my Pro Coil and purchased a SEF 10 X 12. It's always right on the money and I expected it to be, based on messages posted on the forum, to be heavy but it's not any heavier feeling to me than the original Stock 1050 Minelab Coil. Hope this helps as both coils will find good keepers.
