Noticed during my hunt yesterday that rusty nails were reading as silver. Smartfind cross hairs would show in the right upper corner of screen as silver and when I would switch to numbers screen it would read 0-28 or 0-31....Have hunted same property several times with the SE and not experienced that issue. A soaking rain fell the night before and the ground was wet. Sensitivity was at 28 manual, Iron mask was at factory preset, deep and fast on, Had the SE about three months and love the machine...Still learning it...I'm thinking sensitivity was too high?
 
You are thinking correctly. What you were experiencing is WRAP AROUND. You will get those digital reading of 00-31 off hot rocks as well with to much sensitivity..... back it down to 24 often helps. Also to much sensitivity can over load the receive coil and you loose depth.
