SE Pro on the beach

powerwalker

New member
Hi All
I just got myself an explorer SE pro which i want to use on the beach ( the coil is a 15x12 sef )
i currently use the excal 2, i normally hunt in all metal and when i get a signal switch to discrim to see if it,s worth digging
can the SE be used in a similar way or is there any beach programs anyone would recommend
thanks Pete

Andy has a beach program in his book, id say mostly used for those on time management. It gets a little tricky on small gold rings near the water line. You get a little falsing that sounds real close to their tone... kind of low. You know the falsing we get even with the Xcal in disc going cross grain at the wave line. Ive used the SE for some time now so i can normally hunt by tone. It is harder to hunt with than the Xcal that IMO is THE BEST at disc iron out. So you may have to set the IM up until you learn what iron sounds like. Much like the Xcal .... learn the bottle caps and dig everything that isnt in the upper left cornor. Ive used a pattern with a small portion of the upper left cornor blacked out and bottle caps. Cant say it is any better on gold than the Xcal.... but it is deeper on the beach. Also setting the channel manually to 11 seems to settle it down. Unlike the Xcal it HATES anything between the cover and coil ... remove it or clean it often.

ONe of these days Bryce you will get some time to relax on a beach down here.... by then i may have all this water hunting down lol. We can kick some sand and dig some of the yellow stuff. Take care my friend and dig some of those old field coins for us. I miss the old coppers.....
