SE Pro - A New Purchase

Well, I took the plunge and ordered a new Explorer SE Pro Today. As you might expect, I super excited and can't wait till it arrives on Wednesday. Now, it has been a while since I owned a coin/relic detector. Except for my GP 3000 for prospecting here in Southern, CA, my last general detector was a Fisher 1266x......that seem like ages ago. Any way.....I will be using the SE Pro primarily for ocean beach hunting. Any advice for a newbie on the new SE Pro and beach hunting would be appreciated.

PS....the is an awesome web site !!!!!

Hello ,Welcome to the forum, Me and awhole lot of guys on this forum will recommend Andy,s Book on the Explorer and Etrac,
It will tell you how to get the most out of your explorer se. Andy tells you alot of good reading on settings for beach hunting that I want to try.
I,ve been reading my copy for the last month getting ready for good weather.I got my copy from a well known detector
Hope this helps and Good Luck

I too am waiting for good weather. I have been using a DFX for 8 years. Now the Minelab Explorer SE Pro is my choice. I have the Manual and Andy's book. Just start reading the manual first. Memorize it first and then read Andy's. I started with Andy's book and was just getting overloaded with info.

OK.....so I just received my new SE Pro today....man am I excited!!!!! As my previous posts indicated, my last coin/relic machine was a Fisher 1266....that was almost 20 years ago...wow. I'm sure you long timers have heard this store before, but this is a whole new ball game to me. I was fine with the SE quick start, even the threshold and sensitivity settings were "old school" to me. Then, as I continued to read, I discovered what I think are 4 types of discrimination, gain, different audio settings, deep, etc. etc. etc.......just two words for where I am now on the Se learning curve...HOLY SIIT!!!! All kidding aside, I know I have a great machine and will enjoy the time it takes to where I feel comfortable with the different settings. I think I will take all your advice and stick with the pre-set for the first 40 or 50 hours and enjoy the beaches of Southern CA.

I'll say it again.....this is a great web site for beginners, pros and EVERYONE in between !!!!

Thanks Everyone!!
