I started out with my SE that Minelab claims is 3.7 lbs or 3 lbs 11.2 oz with the Pro Coil. This is without the battery which several of us have weighed at 8 oz. So the starting weight would be 4 lbs 3.2 oz.
I wanted a lighter unit but for me my biggest problem was the handle angle and the Minelab cuff that digs into my forearm. To take care of the handle angle I used an S handle from my BHID I had left over when I made a straight rod for it. I used a Whites cuff and tall man rod to make a 2 piece rod. Then I used a piece of

Very nice job,
On the decals..................Have some one Photoshop you some, then you can have it printed up at any sign store, or staples.
done some expermenting with the decals for the xcalibur, held up for about 2 seasons due to the salt water.

Thanks for the decal information. Any body got a factory box I could sub for my box? If you do drop me a PM. Looks are nice but weight is a factor. As soon as I get the final box I'll get the decal made Joe.

She's a beauty Rob! Outstanding work good job a project to be proud of.

Allot of talent on this forum, thanks for sharing

Congrats Rob. It looks great and thanks for your help with my ongoing E-Trac mod.

Let us know how it feels on a long hunt!

I just about have the smaller box done. I couldn't find one so I made one . There will be no extra room in this box.I don't think it will save much weight if any. We will see.

I think I'm going to get some of the cheaper Eneloop batteries (2200 mah). It's not worth spending the extra money on the higher mah ones. I was getting a whole day from the 1600mah pack. I figured out how I can charge the 8 Eneloops with my Whites charger. Again better than buying another charger.

As I posted earlier, I wanted to make a smaller box. I got it done and it can't be any smaller if I use 8 AA batteries and a phone jack. The box is aluminum and not bad for not having a brake. Oh it's a tad lighter now, 3lb 8 oz with 10x12 SEF and 3lb 5 oz with Pro Coil and batteries.

Nice job and hope it serves you well....from previous experience even using a 1266 battery box:

Using the Whites tall mans rod may be too whippy and with a stock large coil still going to be nose heavy...

Just a tough project on what you have to work with and eliminates the rechargeable battery and again a nice job but after modding two XS's went back to my CZ as either of my two modded units they just were not comfortable....

I am pretty husky and could swing the old SE. I found the handle angle uncomfortable. Also the Minelab cuff would dig into my forearm, even with Whites pads. I knew I couldn't completely counter balance the heavy coil but moving the battery back helps some and the detector being lighter also is better.

As far as the tall man being too whippy, I don't see it as I swing the SE slow. Critter hunter is using the same set up and it seems to be no problem for him. All that matters is I like it.:devil:

I've got a CZ5. The coils are heavy and for sure the unit is not a great balanced detector with nothing to counterbalance the coil. That's why everyone stays with the 8" coil. It is still a great unit.

Units I had were very similiar with a S rod configuration however from the picture shown battery box is farther back which may help with the Ergonomics but battery box that far back just got in my way. Indeed slow is the way to go and with your setup may be the way to go and help as far as the two problems I mentioned.
Again not being critical just bringing out some of the problems I had and perhaps a 3 piece straight rod would be the way to go.
With one has to work with just a tough mod at best and try it in the field and perhaps that will give you a better idea of how its going to work out and may be able to make small changes to feel comfortable for your personal body make up and swing configuration as we all differ.

I'm sure everyone doesn't want one or need one.
