Well took advantage inbetween rains today and set my se to different settings a combo of NH BOB and Crow ducks advice and had a much more pleasurable time found some clad an old pocket knife,old spoon,civil war era maybe? and a oklahoma tax token,just goes to show ya it never hurts to ask for advice,One thing about advice Its free and you can take it or leave it! Your Variability should be 9 or 10. The reason I say that is, it will give you more of a curve in your tone variation. Low to high. Easier to mentally tell where the cursor is in relation to the ferrous/conductivity expanse or in conductive sounds it would be foil to silver as an example.
 
What state did you find it in? Is it a 1-mil or 5-mil? The 1-mil are crappy aluminum alloy, but the 5-mil are brass.
