se falsing

saltwater jim

New member
second day hunt on the beach with new se dug up a total of 31 cents but beach is really sanded in however i tried reducing sens to 15 and gain to 6 and i still get falsing in the wet sand . i do not like this at all. so only thing i can think off is se loves the salt thus the falsing or there is somthing wrong with my machine. im at the point of returning machine and stickong to my old friends sov on the wet sand and excal in the water. i think the macine would be a killer for silver coins with that crisp sound for quarters but for gold im wondering pulltabs and nickels dont come in crisp they have a long low sound like foil on the excal and sov, and thats the exact tone se is falsing at.
settings for today was man sens at 15 gain down to 6 i started off in all metal but between the iron sounds and falsing got to be to much so used iron mask at 28 whih i would assume i wouldnt miss good targets .
not unhappy with my meager finds i didnt expect to find much but do not like the falsing in wet sand ........in dry sand runs smooth and also do not like pulltabs and nickels not sounding off with a crisp signal like quarters and dimes, anybody else get falsing in the wet sand or have any ideas thanks jim HH

aye never use coil covers . gonna try 1 more time tommorow with gain at 5 and if i still get falsing either i have a bad se or the se is not what i want for wet sand hunting either way will return to where i bought it if i get falsing tommorow and stick with my trusted sidekicks the sov and excal. from what i read on explorer that was the minelab to own not so sure for beach detecting now but maybe with gain down to 5 i will test it HH jim

Give us all your setting. Check down at your coil where the wire goes into your coil and make sure the thing is tight. Wiggle it around some and see if your display doing anything different. Have you tried another coil. Check at where you hook the coil up at the shaft. When I am over in Fl. hunting I am hunting on the worst black sand beach you ever say . My CZ70 won't even ground balance that is how bad it is. My SE would run at 22 to 25 with a gain of 5 to 7. Have you tried to run it in Auto yet. I will tell you when you scrape the coil on the wet sand you are going to get some falsing if you are running a high SEN. Are you noise canceling the machine. Have you tried another beach. Try some where else as RF energy will effect the Explores and it will cause your threshold to do all kinds of weird stuff. What does your threshold sound like. Later Jerry aka Tinfoil

hi jerry my settings first day were
sens 22- manual started with and dropped to 15 still getting falsing
gain was at 8
tried all-metal then went to ironmask 22
deep-on
fast -off
i think thats about the only adjustments i made the se ran great in dry sand but wet sand i got falsing every couple of feet it seemed with tone a deep bass just like a nickel
today i tried gain at 6 with sens 20 , dropping it again to 15. iron mask at 28 could not get rid of falsing plus quarters and dimes where a crisp hit however nickels and pulltabs where a low broken up signal even when i dropped nickel right on the sand
i dont think there is much if any interference on this beach i run my sov and excal with no falsing so gonna try again tommorow morning with gain at 5 which seems real low and if that dont work maybe its the machine and will send for a replacement
im kinda hopeing i got a bad machine but if falsing is part of what u have to expect with the se then gonna stick with sov and excal. from seeing how deep the explorer went by other posts i was really looking foward to learning this beast but falsing is somthing i cant take as 90% of my detecting is on the wet sand and in the water with the excal thanks for feedback gonna recheck conections and give it one more shot HH jim

Set sen at 22 to 25,set the sen to auto, if it falses drop sen down to 20 in auto. Don't run manual for now. Run in ferrous, limits 10 vol. 10 variability 8 to 10 depends on your hearing. Don't scrape the wet sand with the coil. Keep the coil flat to the sand but not ON the wet salt sand beach. Put it in Digital mode. Run iron mask at 32/AM so you can hear everything. If there is a lot of iron you will get low tones and the ferrous numbers will be high and the cond. numbers will be high./low. Iron will jump all over the place but running in Ferrous you will get the low tone majority of the time unless you hit a bottle cap. Thats another lesson. Learn your digital numbers, I find that a lot better then trying to fugue out where the cross hairs are and the numbers are easyer to see then the cross hairs at the beach. So that will get you going. Try auto first. :D: :D: jerry aka Tinfoil
