SE and 12X15 SEF Perform on the beach

I posted this in the Explorer forum, but it is beach detecting, so I thought I would share.--

So a small group of my Detecting Club members and I hit a somewhat private beach by the shore Sunday. Nor'easters had washed the sands around a bit and we were hoping in a good way. I soon found myself on a stretch of beach that was lower than the surrounding area. The beach had black and purple hued sand laced through out it, so the detector was going to be put to work. I ran it in all metal mode with semi-auto sensitivity set at 25. Let me tell you, while I found a decent bunch of coins, the signals were mostly just chirps, just enough to tell me there was something under the coil other then iron.

I am very impressed with how the SE and the 12X15 coil works in rather tough mineralized sand. Most of my finds were way down, through the 4-8" of sand that was remaining, all the way into this 2-3 inch layer of black clay that stunk like death. I found that a stronger sweep speed, and overlapping gave me the little chirp required to tell me something other than iron was there. I could almost feel the detector project down into the sand the stronger I swept.

I didn't know I had found two silver rosies until after the hunt when I was sorting through my coins. I'm fairly new to the hobby, and I rarely hunt beaches, so recognizing salt beach coins is new to me. As luck would have it, an encrusted coin I broke open turned out to be my 3rd rosie of the day. I had a great time! Enjoy the pics and thanks for looking.
