Scuba hunting in Texas?

I know that the ridiculous Texas laws pretty much restrict us from diving any wrecks, but what about other treasure diving in Texas? Anyone active? Where do you dive? I am in the NW Houston area.

Don't you think you would look a little silly??

Hey! It's raining as we speak!!!! We still have some good depth in the larger lakes and the gulf waters don't care about the drought. I dove the Comal river in New Braunfels last week (Annual Trashfest) and the water was great.

Michigan has laws also. You can dive on shipwrecks BUT you can't take anything from them or around them. HOWEVER, ALL public beaches and lakes are fair game. Its like wading with a detector but your going a little deeper. I highly doubt you would have any problems. I just don't know who you would ask. Probably find a Texas metal detecting club online. Good luck and I hope you find a mint!!

" I highly doubt you would have any problems"

What? What are you talking about? He should keep asking around until he gets a "no" (afterall, you can't be "too carefull" can you?) And heavens knows, there's people down there under the water watching him, making careful note of the age of the coins, etc...

You have a point. Maybe I'll dive in an Elvis costume and throw off the TDDD (Texas Department of Detector Detectives).

I used to dive the Blue Hole in Wimberly a few years back and pulled many old silvers from there. I don't dive anymore. Have you tried hunting Lake Houston? Have been thinking about going there, not sure if it's allowed, I know the levels are at record lows, I live in Angleton......HH
