Screwcap VDI

Early in my MXT experience (less than a year now), every target in the VDI range of 50 I dug turned out to be trash, so I habitually began ignoring such signals.
However, I recently dug some targets in that range and discovered goodies, including pennies and a silver bracelet. Now I feel sick to think what I might have passed over during the passed 11 months.
Would some of you folks mind sharing your wisdom and experience regarding the types of targets that might register in the 50 range?
Thanks much,
Royce

I would recommend this book.
"Taking a Closer Look at Metal Detector Discrimination
Learn all about audio and visual discrimination - how to recognize typical responses to all types of targets while metal detecting. Robert Brockett - Author
It won't give you the exact number on the MXT, but will help you understand conductivity of metals.
It costs $9 at your local White's dealer
Oak -- sweet home Alabama
PS Only you can decide how much you want to dig. The VDI on the MXT does a good job on coins.

Have done the same thing. except some times i check if it sound different than it usally does. More soilid and it still beep though with trigger forward.Pull tab here run in that range but closer to 47 50 excatly is usally something .In fact today i check and pulled a little liter that really works it was about the size of a quarter but square and looked like a litte old style blow torch, down about 3 inches. Also class ring start there and kind of jump to 57 and up.

Royce,
Some of those screwcaps are just tricky. Butch has the best advice, and that is if it beeps, dig it. That way you won't miss any goodies; however, sometimes there is just so much trash, or your time is limited at a site, so you have to make some decisions on what to dig. I have found that the mid-40's to mid-50's is usually trash, but not always. I have dug some goodies, to include a lot of wheat pennies in the mid to high 50s. I have also dug a lot of screw caps reading 83 to 86, which of course I thought for sure were going to be quarters or silver. One thing I have found is that gold tends to usually give a more solid signal...doesn't jump around as much. If I'm being picky in a high trash area, I look for a solid signal that doesn't jump very much on each sweep. A lot of gold hits in that pull tab range, but a gold ring will usually be pretty consistent, while a pull tab might jump from 16 to 35 on each sweep. That is not always the case, but in general. The best thing is to set your descrimination low and dig all positive numbers. That way you know goodies aren't slipping by you. Hope this helps.

To ck if it's a steel beer cap- try coming from the side and give it a few bumps-- most times it will go negative.
