Screen protector

I just received my CTX-3030, and I noticed that it has that infamous "rainbow looking" effect on it. Pretty annoying to me, so I looked closely at it and realized it has one of those thin protector shields. Well, I got on you-tube and found a guy who peeled it off and replaced it with another third party protector called Invisible Shield. He seemed happy with it but when I read some reviews on Amazon about it they said it had problems, peeling off, continued rainbow effect, etc. Like the old 50's commercial, I ask: "What's a mother to do", (although I'm certainly not a mother, but just wondered if anyone had any info on this, or, how bad is it to pull off the protector that comes with the detector. I think the rainbow thing would go away, but it might get scratched pretty easily. Marc Trainor.

I could be wrong, but I thought the film that is on the detector from the factory is just protection in the box and needs to be removed.
I then put Invisable Shield on and it does a good job, no glare , no rainbow effect and can take some abuse while keeping the screen scratch free.
There was enough in the package I got to make 4 screen savers.
Hope this helps

I agree with Ben. Peel it off. Invisa shield works great. Wait till you put on the wrong sun glass's though. You'll get a good scare!

LOL, yeah if you get a polorized shield and wear polarized glasses it's going to be a bad day of hunting. I use the Z A GG screen shield and am VERY happy with it. I just hate that you have to buy a tablet version and cut it down.

Yeah, that is just for protection from the factory to you... The Z Agg is the way to go. I highly recommend cutting it to cover the entire face of the detector rather than just the screen. Down the road if you ever decide to sell it, you can show off how the control panel, screen, and surrounding areas look brand new.

The problem with the CTX is it's inset display. You have to cut two covers, one for the faceplate and one for the screen. That stuff is HARD to cut. It takes a brand new razor and steady firm hand and even then it can be difficult. Just make sure you are cutting everything on a cutting mat and not on the detector face, LOL.

Oh no, one cover works fine for the whole thing. I've been doing it since day one years and years ago

z a g g on screen and buttons and 3d on the face plate.

1. So is the Zag or Invisible Shield type window better than something cheaper because it makes the LCD easier to see, or something else.
I got something cheap at Radio Shack and it protects well but doesn't affect the seeing at all. No polarization in it for example.

2. How about that wrap on the handle. Does that help a lot - lessen calluses etc. ?

don't know about the zag v other material as long as it keeps the thing so I can wipe with grubby fingers and not scratch the screen I am happy :bouncy:

mcnett on the handle makes all the difference for me otherwise it just feels wrong or might I say cheep , so yes 100% makes a difference its mcnett gun wrap.

have fun tricking the trickster :poke: I mean making your ctx feel and look better !

Better because of durability! I have been using zag since I went to Iraq in 2008. I put one on my GPS and it performed perfectly. It never peeled off, and it took all the abuse I threw at it for a year. I could still see through it perfectly after everything I did and of course the original screen face underneath is still perfect. After seeing how well it performed there, I've used them on every detector face since.

Thanks Amberjack - I'm going to get some of that for mine.
Jason- the cheap stuff I used crapped out first try but has lasted a year on the second try. A bubble on the edge has developed so might be time to try another piece. It hasn't any scratches.

Jason, in my case you are right. I put just one over all and there is a slight 'old' bubble area around the entire screen edge that is inset, causing the battery indicator to be difficult at best to read. Other than the difficulty in reading the stuff right at the edge of the screen, no problem. Of course it has been on there for 2 years now cause I am too lazy to change it.

I fell in love with the Zag since it worked so well on my phone. Once it goes on it can take the toughest abuse and won't scratch up and become hard to see. The key is to have a template for cutting down a zag from an older ipad model. It should only takes a couple of minutes. My current zag has been on at least a couple of years now and still looks practically new.

I never had that problem with the handle giving my hand any issues, so can't comment on that. There were a couple of folks that had somehow worn away their handle and wrapped it afterwards. I believe we thought it was related to bug spray causing the material to disintegrate.

re the Handle Wrap, I have had great success with 3M Vetwrap; available at Tractor Supply, most CoOps and feed stores. I like it because it makes the grip fatter and softer. Wears well and is easy to peel off a layer or 2 then replenish. NO glue on it, so theres never any sticky residue like with a tape. About $3 a roll.

This is what you can expect to see after using a one piece Zag cover for a couple of years. You can see the bubble along the edges, but it never interfered with my ability to read the screen. It is also a bit more protection for the screen being that it is supported by the cover going across a larger area.

Am I understanding this right.
Are you guys putting the Zagg screen protector over the controll buttons on the CTX?
I have it on the screen , didn't think it would stick the rest !
Does it stay on and in place for a long time?
Thanks maybe this will be a winter project ;-)

I cut mine into two pieces; a large piece that covers the whole face plate and buttons and an inset piece that covers the screen.

I think there is two kinds of screen protectors.
One just adheres to a very smooth clean surface and then some have a silicon adhesive
Does the one with the adhesive sound like a better choice, I'm sure the adhesive would not damage any surface just sounds like a better choice.
Let me know what works best

there is the rest and then the best zag is the best mine has been on near 5 years no sign of falling off been in the water hosed off etc.. buttons are where it shines all my touch pad detectors have it on it works very well and being that the word is blocked here proves it works :bouncy:

just buy the out of production ipad size off ebay for cheap no brainer
