Screen protector application, Is this alright to do?

I think I read where this subject was touched but was unsure of the type of protector used. I picked these up with the intent of trimming them down. If there is a possible issue where it might do more harm than good I'd like to find out before applying it. These are touted as

Yeah, I've had one on mine since forever. Great (small) investment to keep the screen from getting scratched up. I forgot and left mine on back when I sent in for warranty work. Garrett's never said anything and fixed unit for free as per warranty.
Happy Hunting!:)

Do they make one that would magnify the screen? For us old guys with reading glasses? First dibs on that idea!

I'm with you on that! My V3i does have that feature to enlarge the fonts and its really super. I hunt first with my ears to locate a target to further analyze.
Not easy getting older.

Yes, I use the 3M brand (about $11 at wal-mart) - I'm on my 2nd one though....since it's not sticky but just static stuckon the ends would peel up and dirt gets stuck under the protector. I just replaced my first one with a new one but I put clear tape over it to hold down the edges. YES, it does add a few layers to look through for the screen, but in my case I go off of the sounds a target makes before I check out the screen anyways. I got it just for the reason to now scratch the screeen, dust and dirt quickly builds up and rubbing my thumb over the screen made me wince each time, now I don't bother worrying and just wipe and swing.

I also use a dog lease setup I 1st seen suggested by Aquachigger

makes my usage of my ATPRO much more enjoyable and easier to deal with when digging and just taking a break, not having to bother with always picking up and letting go when I get tired or getting out my digging shovel or my coin pouch.

I am 36 and have been digging for only about 6 months, these two improvements that I decided to follow has helped me get over the learning curve by not having to fumble around with the hassles of a scratched screen or possible breaking of machine by dropping it.

Took your idea to the dollar store. I found a pack of two screen protectors for a dollar. Cut one to fit my detector. Works good.

Yep, should have done a screen protector. I got a slight dimple in
my Ace 350 screen. Something must have pressed against it in the back
of the Suburban. I guess it's never to late to avoid future blemishes.

They do make a thin plastic that magnifies. It has to be a distance from whatever you want to magnify and I wouldn't know how to attach it to the display.
