Scorpion keeps talkin' to me

Yesterday I went to the dentist for what I thought was going to be a short appointment. Naturally there's always a little more metal just laying around that they need to stuff into my teeth! Turns out with my job stress as of late I must be grinding my teeth and have worn some holes in some older fillings. However, the dentist is family and I found out that one of my relateives is also into detecting! Woohoo! He lives in Colorado though so we won't be getting together real soon..

After honey-do's and errands I finally got out to do some detecting. I hit a tot lot near me and probably didn't take the time I needed to, but was shocked when a 1949 wheat popped out of an area I cleaned out about 2 weeks ago!! It was part of a 'coin drop' of 5 other pennies and is probably in better shape than any of my other wheats...SWHEAT! I had just enough time left to hit another lot--right about the time school was letting out. I had lots of kids stopping me and asking what I was doing, what is that thing, and what have you found, etc. I dug some more pennies and a dime at that one. Cool thing is that the Scorpion impressed me and one of the kids when it kept beeping on something that my pinpointer couldn't find. Mind you, I have an el cheapo Centech pointer. Finally I found the culprit..a TINY piece of foil! I really need to learn the ins/outs of sensitivity!

Anyway, a short but productive hunt!

SWHEAT! I love it! Yes, indeed. She'll hit those tiny bits and go DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP on some larger ones. OH YESI I love the way she speaks to me.:detecting:
And John, you never cease to amaze me, sir! Outstanding!:please:

Lovin' it more everytime I use it... I need to find some spots like John's!!!!

Yall need to stop talking about the Scorpion! I'm gonna have to get one if yall don't quit! Just kidding! It's amazing how well some of the "older" machines work huh? That's why I've kept my old tesoros for so long, the newer ones just don't really seem to work that much better, hell if anything they are more unstable due to the high gain.

I have a question about the Scorp. In disc mode when you crank up the sens does it "tick or buzz"? like a threshold? If so when you are hunting if you hear a "null" in this buzzing, dig and see if there's a target- the reason I ask is on my 1265X dinosaur when the buzz(overgain) goes quiet it's a target at insane depth. Yall are gonna think I'm nutz but I've dug CW minis at least 24 inches like this using the 12 inch hot head coil and listening for a "null" in the feedback as it were. Sometimes it was a nail or some other trash, hey it's a Fisher, lol. Just wondering?

Well, the Scorpion does have a threshold tone, and I normally keep my sensitivity set a the factory spot. However, I did have a null in the threshold the other day at a lot. It was just a slight null and it did make me wonder what it could be...but I didn't dig it. Maybe I need to go back?? The motherlode in hiding?

Hey, R-n-R, hope I can answer you question about Scorpion. It does indeed have a threshold "audio" tone as Pyledriver has responded. Now, whenever my audio has decreased or "nulled" in discriminate mode it's usually an indication of mineralization(typically iron oxide/something that has completely rusted out to nothingness). In all metal mode, while prospecting, the decrease in audio is a good indication that black sand(magnatite) is present and therefore quite possibly gold flakes as well. Anyway, that's just my experience. I will take your advice and dig the nulls to see if there is anything deeper. It's always cool to find those minnie balls. I've found a couple of 'em in the past with my Grand Master Hunter. Well, I hope this helps. Happy Hunting.:)
