I originally got this machine fer findin' the yeller metal, but now want to learn how to find coin and jewlery. Went with a friend to Redondo Beach Ca today. Beautiful day, cool but sunny. My friend has a Minelab XL something and did quite well. Me on the otherhand only found bottlecaps and 3 pennies. Perhaps I have the machine set up wrong. Here is how I set it. Disc on zero, sensitivity on the factory setting (notch), Auto on, Motion Disc on. Am I just unlucky or do I have ther machine set-up wrong? All you beach hunters out there, what settings would you suggest? And no I can't afford to buy a nother machine at this time, thank you, Dan <img src="/metal/html/confused.gif" border=0 width=15 height=22 alt=":?">

Hi Dan. That scorpion is a fine detector. It is one of the few gold machines out there that can also find coins, relics and gold. I don't think it ever got the recognition that it should. It is good to find tiny pieces of gold. Not every gold machine is good for all types of conditions. Your friends Minelab cost substantually more then the Scorpion, so its not fair to compare the two. That said, you will get better depth if you manually ground balance it. But, there are lots of other machines out there that are maybe more designed to find coins and jewellry. Research the Garrett GTI series. Heck, the ACE 250 is a real hot little machine too! Good luck with your search. You are asking some graet questions that should help you make a decision. Good luck with your search and whatever machine you buy!

John, for detecting at the beach and parks and playgrounds what settings do you reccomend? Dan
