Got out to hit low tide at Santa Monica on Thursday. 5:00am -11:00am. This place is right next to the pier and you can always count on at least two or three other guys detecting when you get there. I was surprised to find no one there. Hit a ring right off the bat. Thought it was costume jewelry when I shined my light on it. It went into my pouch. About 20 minutes later my Explorer started falsing like crazy. Thought I had a problem with the coil so I switched to my platypus coil with the same results. I normally take my PI machine with me and this time I only had the Explorer .
Started for the car to head back home and remembered that I had taken apart my detector the night before. I had already checked all my setting and the coil connection on the coil. I removed the upper shaft and re-inserted back into the control box. Thank god that worked. My buddy later told me I might have kinked the coil the wrong way. If it happens again I'll have to send it in to have it checked.
To make a long story short I also got a 14K gold wedding band. Later back at my truck I emptied my pouch to check my goodies. To my surprise the ring I found in the morning has 14k stamped on it. Turned out to be a very good day for me. Even got a 1954 wheat penny.
I hit Zuma beach on Friday and had a terrible day as far as finds go. Should have gone back to Santa Monica
