Scored on TWO treasures already!

I was researching pin pointers today and the Garret seems to be everyone's favorite, although there were several nods for the $16 one from Harbor Freight. There's a HF store about 8 miles away so I headed there and put one in the cart along with a bunch of other stuff. On the way home I thought the total seemed lower than expected so when I checked it, there wasn't a detector rung up, there was something else but only for $1.50 - my first treasure!

Then I was researching headphones some more and read where you should match the headphones impedance with the unit. I couldn't find that info on the manual I downloaded so I decided to call Tesero. Eventually I got to talk with Rusty Henry, their main service guy, and we talked for about a half hour with him explaining a lot about the company's history and metal detectors in general - my second treasure that day!

He kept referring to them as the Silver Micro Max and I told him I had the uMax. He started laughing saying that is not a U but with the tail hanging down on the left side, it actually a Greek letter for the word mu which means micro - who knew? He also said the best headphones he has ever had that works with THAT detector is the Calrad 15-135B with the right angled connector. So I ordered one from him. What a great day.

Funny thing you had mentioned those Calrads 15-135B
I have been using a pair on my Berkut and Tesoros for the past year.
Have to say, they are inexpensive and not well respected. But, damn they sound good with a lot of machines especially Tesoros.
Much nicer than the Killer Bees, etc. I had.
Best of all, they were a free toss in when I bought a older used Garrett back in Dec. 2013.

You can't say enough good things about Rusty Henry. He's a straight shooter and will take the time to give out helpful information to anyone who needs it.

As a former navy seal trained in using a metal detector for military use many many years ago:), he was one of the first guys to ever use a metal detector for hobby use.

Can you imagine being one of the first guys to metal detect on a beach. :detecting:

Glad to hear of your treasures

Rusty is a heck of a nice guy.Great on answering questions.Proud to be one of his customers.I used one of the hf pinpointers for a couple of years and will get you by but the garrett pinpointer is much better.Be sure and show us all your finds:jump:

I have had a chance to visit with Rusty before as well. He is very knowledgeable about the hobby and the the machines we all love. Speaking of headphones I have a pair of calrads as well. They do sound fantastic with Tesoros, but one of my real prize set of headphones is some Tesoro ones with volume control. I got them when I bought a silver sabre Umax off of a guy 2 years ago. I sold the detector but kept the headphones. I don't think I will be parting with any of my current Tesoro gear any time soon. Probably will hand it down to my kids if they are that lucky. lol. HH and good luck tpcollins

I had the pleasure last week of once again speaking with 'Rusty" a really nice guy with a ton of knowledge and willingness to help all.

You got that right!

I'm going to get around to scanning and posting a old magazine article with pictures of Rusty on the beach with a unbelievable pile of treasure that he found.
