Saturday my son and I met up with another friend and went detecting. We found a spot next to a redone building that seemed to still have some old stuff. The ground was fairly mineralized and a good bit of iron around. We picked up wheats, clad, misc junk and my son found a couple mercs.

We breaked for lunch and decided to go back for 1 more hour. I'm glad we did...
As soon as we got back I set up the Quattro for sens 16, low trash and all metal mode. Did my noise cancel and started to search. Was getting a lot of -10 noise. Not more than 5 minutes I get a higher tone and see a 14 flash for a second. Dug the signal and out pops a Buffalo Nickel.:)

Then I think I dug some trash. About 10 minutes later I get the high tone(s) and see a 38 flash for a second before again going back to some minus numbers. I re-swept and although I don't think I got another 38 it was convincing enough on the tone to think it was most likely a wheat penny. Then out pops this 1920 SLQ. My first! Definitely made my day.

Sweet! I've found 5 of them over the years but I'll never forget the rush of that first one. Mine was a 1930. That's one of my favorite coin designs too...they just don't make 'em like that anymore. The other is the Walking Liberty half...a real work of art, in my opinion.

Nice quarter...congrats.

Mirage, what happened there with the minus number, than a quick flash of a positive number reading, you digging it and finding a coin is what happens a lot with me! I've picked up pennies that read -2 in the ground, and when dug, read 37+. I think you're getting the hand of what to dig, and you're beginning to tell that something the Quattro is saying, is that the target is worth digging, despite what the initial negative number reading is. Relics can also fit in this mode of detecting, - numbers that tell you it's a relic, but always go by sound firstly, there is a difference in what a 'good' relic sounds like, in comparision to junk!

Nice coin Mirage, even has a date. I have'nt found any this year yet but the ones I've found over the years never seem to have dates on them.

Hello Mirage. Nice quarter Dollar. I have found one may be two at a American army hospital site from the 2nd WW. This is the fourth year that that I have been working on this site. I have found a lot of Australian pre decimal coins and about thirty US coins. I have found a lot of war time articles of that time era. Stan. Australia.
