Scoop Idea

Someone passed this idea to me that I haven't seen discussed here and it works great. Get a strong magnet (from a computer or starter) and tie strap it to the bottom of the scoop furthest from the handle. You know what happens from here:) I recently upgraded to a Whites PI Pro and am diggin everything, I mean everything and deep.

This magnet idea keeps the small staples and bobbie pins from going back to earth. Hope this helps. HH

Hi Gang,

I've had a 4" speaker magnet in the bottom of my scoop for years. It catches an occasional nail etc., however after a while it gets covered with a heavy black mineral deposit that has to be kept scraped off and it's ability to catch these tiny objects is not as great as you might think because they slip through the holes before getting near the magnet.

I'm getting tired of the extra weight and by using a sifter with tiny holes (and a lot of them, thanks Kaptain Kosmik for your ideas!!!) I'm catching very small finds I never got before, (a Vibraprobe is a BIG help here). The magnet is coming off before I go out again.

Hey Bling,

Good idea mate! A lot lighter.

Anyone interested in a good sifter can get a good look at a post dated June 13, '08, 09:06 PM complements of Kaptain Kosmic.

If you have access to any dead computer hard drives, they have the strongest magnets in them than most people have ever seen. Especially the 500 meg to 4 gig drives older drives. The magenets are very light but VERY strong. Newer drives have magnets but not as many. They might help on weight issues.
