scoop handles REPLACEMENT

Been using for 2 years, a carbon fibre handle from a new snow shovel .Looks exactly the same as recent advertised handles on this site . First you purchase carbon fibre snow shovel , then remove 2 rivets attaching plastic blade to shovel with a mini grinder . You now have good handle --- PRICE ONLY about $20.00 !!! ; I noticed some snow shovels are even curved for better leverage .; I never sprayed mine inside with foam , but home depot sells the foam spray cans cheap . Handle is used with popular Ukrainian scoop .

Nice idea if ya live where it snows, but I can't find any "snow shovels" for sale here on the Central Coast of Calif. let alone ones with carbon fiber handles.

Those "Snow Shovels" are also a very scarce Item in my section of the world. (Where I live Snow is one of those Nasty 4 letter words). I use a Fiberglass handle designed for a post hole digger. I put a dowel rod in the center of the handle. Had to put some shims around the handle so that it would fit my scoop. I also put a pvc cap on the upper end of the handle. So far So Good. I have put a good bit of pressure on that handle and have not had a problem yet.

Hey Mike K.....if you have used your "Carbon Fiber snow shovel handle" for two years, then why did you post this in October? Were you confused and meant to say Fiberglass handle?

"I have a good underwater stavro scoop . I put on a handle that was a dowl, from home depot and fiberglass covering that shovels have . this dowl broke after 20 hours of digging . Next I tried a wooden handle from a shovel ,it also quickly broke . Anyone know where and what would be the best handle to use ? DIGGING GREAT LAKES

YOU have to LINE the WOOD GRAIN up properly!! Also, DON'T "GO G-O-R-I-L-L-A" on IT!! I have been USING that HANDLE (ASH FIR) for (2) Yrs. N-O-W on MY T-REX Jr.
Scoop, and STILL Going STRONG!! Also, I DETECT in S-H-O-U-L-D-E-R DEEP Ocean/Gulf of Mexico/Saltwater Bays/a Few Lakes A-L-O-T!! BEST of LUCK!! Les Robinson.

It would be great if someone would explain what 'correctly' means in relation to the wood grain and/or post photos for those that aren't sure.

Think of wood like a deck of cards, with many parallel layers making up the grain of the wood. If you lay a deck of cards down flat and pull up on one end it will flex easily. But if you put the deck on edge and try to lift up on one end it is next to impossible.

So what you want to do is have the lines of the grain that look like the edge of the deck of cards facing toward the scoop, not off to one side or the other.
Hopefully someone else will come in with a picture to make it more clear.

Tried fiberglass ,then found carbon fiber shovels .I have 3 scoops 1-old millers scoop that's still good ,1 fiberglass that's ify and the carbon fiber that I mentioned ,with Ukrainian scoop . stay tuned as to which one lasts longest .

What is the T-Rex Jr. scoop? Looking to replace aluminum scoops for me and the wife. Is the Jr. a smaller scoop?

SurfPro, The Reg. T-Rex is 9 1/2" Wide x either 11" or 12" Long, and the T-Rex Jr. is 8" Wide x 11" or 12" Long (T-Rex Jr. Is Noticably Lighter in Weight, than the T-Rex)!! Les Robinson

Thanks Les, this is the info I was looking for.

I have one of each and I prefer the 8 inch. I never heard it referred to as Jr.
