Hi i hunt mostly in the water and do a/c for my regular job.I used the rubber insulation we use on the a/c lines on my scoop handle and it work's great !I can let go of mt aluminum scoop and the red handle of my scoop stays vertical and visible.I can also use my knee on the shaft for leverage since it is padded.I use 1 1/8" x 1/2 inch thick rubbertex and a roll of electrical tape.It comes in all diameters if your digger only has 3/4 0r 7/8.Ya don't need much and it really helps out if you can let the scoop go and not have to hunt for it on the bottom. It is real inexpensive.if you see a a/c truck working in the neighborhood stop and ask him if he will give you a piece.I did fill the handle end of scoop with silicone to keep the water out too.Hope this helps you too.it is a closed cell foam so it wont get water logged either.

Lost a shovel / aluminum sand scoop in the water at CWB yesterday. Reward offered.

I have heard of people using a "noodle" . The foam thing kids play with in pools. They have a hole in the middle and you may be able to slip the shovel handle thru the hole. They will not get waterlogged and you can get a bright colored one for visibility. They are at the dollar stores or Walmart cheap.
