School Play Lot

This afternoon I spent a couple hours in the local school play lot. By the time all was said and done, I walked away with two quarters (1981 & 2001), one dime (1994), and ten pennies. (one 1959, one 2001. and the others all from the mid '90s) All in all a fun time diggin' in the dirt.

Nice finds...I've been hitting the play lot at a near by school and have found about $3.00 in clad from all of my hunts...Now I need to find another school to hunt.

I have fun no matter how much I find. It is just Therapeutic for me after a long day at work to be able to get out and swing and walk. I can come home with pennies and trash and still have had a great time. It is the curiosity of what might be under the coil next that keeps me digging. Yes I would like to find enough in the ground this year to earn a Tesoro Vaquero by June, but I will have a good time along the way. My wife says I can spend the money I find on what I want. So I will continue to save my pennies til I get there. It feels like I am the boy in "Where the Red Fern Grows" saving his pennies to earn his coon hunting dogs, but I enjoy detecting and earning things. Just enjoy the hunt and remember that even if you think a site is hunted out, think again. Every time you get a new detector or coil you should go back to sites you have hunted at before. It can be like finding a site for the first time with how much you will find. Good Luck and HH.

Congrats Nice Finds !!

Hit the city parks around the swings and merry-go-round it they have one. Also under the "chin-up" bars.

I have found pocket-fulls of quarters and dimes after a drunk teenager hung upside down from a chin up bar, and didn't realize his pockets emptied out. Merry go rounds have lots of bounty around them.

Go where the teens and adults can "make out" after dark. They tend to have more money in their pockets, but still play on the toys after a couple drinks while wooing the chicks.

Where I live, the parks are off limits to MD'ing.

Ouch!

That sucks.

I get most of my hits where the older teens play around at night.

My son and I have hunted a nearby school lot about 10 times and continue to find coins. I keep expecting it to 'run dry'. Being new at this, we are likely not getting complete coverage and the replenishment rate seems to be good. This is a school lot / park that is not completely fenced off and closed after hours like many others in this area, so there are people using the equipment besides just the elementary school kids.

My son did hit one 2' x 2' area under some of the bars that yielded 7 coins. His Tracker IV is very effective in the school yards since everything is fairly shallow (there is often a landscape tarp or fabric under the wood chips).

Tracker IV is a GREAT machine for finding coins in playgrounds. I even have a high dollar White's Eagle II SL and it tends to cancel out some of the coins as trash. With the Tracker, it beeps, I dig, and yes, some trash, but I don't miss any coins.
