School me on the DD coil

I just ordered a V3i with the stock DD coil. I understand this coil can be good in trash because unlike a round Concentric this picks up the center where the coils over lap creating a () search pattern in the middle of the coil. Is this correct?

Yes, better side to side discrimiation. All D coils work the same. A 6x10 would have smaller () pattern.

OK Thanks from the reading I have done it looks like one of the first changes I need to make is changing the way the VDI reads from Intensity to Consensity since my ground is real good here. Correct

The DD/SEF coils have a narrow search field the entire length of the coil while the concentric coil has a conical pattern. You need to overlap your sweep pattern more with a concentric coil to get good coverage on deeper targets.

The first image is a concentric coils detection field from all directions and the middle image is a DD coil from the front and back. The last image is a DD coil from the side.

No reason to use consistency. It is just a matter of preference. Consistency is no better than intensity in good ground. Consistency may not work as well in bad ground.

Will the SEF pattern look like the DD?

Yes, an SEF is a DD coil.

You might also decrease the sensitivity a little..... Running too hot is not always the best ...... Or as a fellow from another forum says "Mo Hotta ain't always Mo Betta.
Happy hunting.
