School hunt, lots of pulltabs and some coins

I finally got permission from the owners of the property where a school used to be located and demonstrated to the folks how I metal detected for coins and how I recovered my targets and the man who gave me permission to hunt this school that I attended in the 1960's might get a metal detector himself. I intend to give Garrett his address and ask them to send him a catalog and calendar. I found a 1941 wheat penny and 4 lincoln cents, 2 quarters and a 1967 dime plus a play dime folded over on itself and it had play money and thin dime printed on it. I also found about a bucket of pull tabs and pop tops. The old school burned down years ago and the area is full of trash. I went this last Saturday and hope to go back this weekend. I probably will be using the sniper coil, because you never seen so much trash. One of the quarters was a 1966, but it surely wasn't silver due to the corrosion on the coin.
Another member of my church has caught the dirt fishing fever and ordered the Ace-350. First time I have been able to go dirt fishing for quite a while and stick with it about 4 hours. I sure was stiff, but hope to get out again this weekend. I know there is some silver at this location unless someone else did some dirt fishing there and I just don't know it. I ordered a USB microscope that takes digital photos and when it comes in maybe I can post some photos.
An old house was bulldozed near our church last week and I hope to gain permission to metal detect there and two old tobacco barns were torn down about 25 miles from here and another old barn was destroyed a few months ago in a storm and hopefully I can get permission to metal detect there when they haul the debri off. HH.

I went back to the school today and found 10 lincoln cents and a badly corroded 1947 wheat penny and a clad dime, but I have never seen so many pulltabs and nails anywhere. I enjoyed it and hope to hit it with the sniper coil this Saturday. I have been trying to use the 9.5 imaging coil and work around the trash, but it's time for the sniper. I know there has to be some silver here. This school was built in 1923 and burned down about 20-30 years ago. HH.

Congrats ! I would like to see pics from the microscope!

I cancelled the order for the usb microscope because it was made in china and I am trying to find one made just about anywhere else. If not, I will buy the one I wanted in the first place, but I am tired of sending my money to the chinese. I will definitely send some photos as soon as I get one.

I found a 1961 silver nickel, a dime and 3 pennies at the school today and then went to a local place at the lake and found 2 clad quarters, 5 dimes and 9 more pennies. The sniper coil found some coins in some tight places, but those large pull tabs ring up just like a nickel. I'm pretty tired, and this is the first time I have been able to get out and do some detecting since last week. I hope to start getting out 2-3 times a week and hope to find some good stuff. HH.
As soon as I can get a scoop, I may try water detecting, but I'm concerned that there is as many pull tabs in the water as on the land. I'm just happy to be able to dirt fish at all and can't wait until I find my first ring. I have a sleep study Friday night and hope to go back to both these areas Saturday morning and hit the sports field at the old school. I intend to hit it with the 12.5 inch imaging coil and see what happens.

I hate things made in china also, keep us posted!

I tried the 12.5 imaging coil and it went nuts with all the trash. I plan to go back with the sniper and the 5 x 10 dd coil next week and try to work out a grid system. I have tried to find a concentration of coins by moving around to different areas, but I believe the grid system will be the way to go.

I found 4 lincoln pennies last week and a 1952 wheat and found 10 lincoln pennies today and a wheat, but I can't make out the date and a clad dime. I had plans to hit another area, but started having cramps from the heat and had to give it up. Every time I thought I had a nickel, it was one of those big pull tabs.
Hoping to hit some local parks next week. I found out today that other people have worked the old school with a metal detector because one of them stopped and talked to me, but I believe for some reason if I keep on I will find some decent silver. HH.

I didn't know 1961 nickles had any silver content. I thought it was only wartime nickles 1942-1945

You may be right, jarrow. I assumed all the coins up to 1964 were silver. I'll check the red book and find out.

I looked in the red book and read that it had some silver, but not much. Thanks for keeping me straight.
