.... He and I both were detecting in the rain .... cold rain .... yet we both were smiling as we met up and shook hands in the woods. Was good to see Jim again. As I left him I yelled, "Go Gators!", He chuckled.
It must have rained 2" today. All the hunting is in woods, no fields at all. There were 10,000 Union troops camped here on this 165 acres .... plus some Confederate camps here before the Union troops. I figure they were the neatest, most environmentally concerned troops of the Union 2nd Corp .... as the finds are quite slim based on the number of diggers / man hours here and what the "grapevine" has reported has been dug ... from what I've heard so far. They must have properly disposed of most all their dropped and fired rounds, plates, buckels, etc.
The rain made it miserable and cold for this Florida guy. I quit hunting at lunch and took a nap in the car due to the rain and the fact that my MXT had water drops between the screen protective cover and the LCD screen.
Today I found the chain and loop from a live trap, a fired 3 ringer and a ball from a buck and ball ... or perhaps it's a pistol ball ... who knows? My buddy Keith is in competition with himself so he went back out in the worst of the storm and dug about a dozen pistol bullets, and some buck & ball balls.
Rain is supposed to end tomorrow afternoon so should be more enjoyable hunting for all of us.
I'm not being negative on this DIV hunt ... just on the weather which no one here has control over. The hunt is well organized and some really great relics were found ... just none by the 4 of us in our vehicle. Tomorrow will be a better day and am looking forward to it. The woods have hardly any trash at all so any good non iron signal might be a significant find. Wish us luck. - Ed
