Saw an Etrac user pull a 1812

jabbo

New member
half dollar from a heavily hunted park yesterday, in NJ. About uncirculated condition. What excitement. Coin was 7 inches deep, my Fisher could have found that if I dug iffy targets. One of his Etrac buddies showed me a 1781 half real almost uncirculated he dug the day before. Like they say, no park is ever searched out. These young guys with the best detectors are learning right, search deep. When I started detecting in the early 70's silver was shallow and it's hard for an old dog (70) to learn new tricks. 70 years old !!!!!! So you are very, very experienced the Dave.

The Etrac is the easiest and most 'powerful' detector on the scene at the moment.

I keep telling folk, "Just stick your FE mask up to about 27 to 30, and hunt in Ferrous audio, two tones,

AND DIG EVERY TARGET THAT PRODUCES A REPEATABLE SOUND.

Don't look at the screen too much, and let the AUDIO be your guide,

NEAT, TIGHT AUDIO,,,,no wide bleary tones.

Keep your eye on the depth gauge.....love the deeper indications.

Be weary of the target situation where the apparent position between MOTION and TRIGGER pin-pointing differs.

One is the 'goodie', and the 'trigger one' is probably nearby iron.

Remove the iron first...THEN go get the GOOD ONE.

Don't be deceived by the Fe number going down towards iron.....for that's what fools other detectors.

If that audio sounds neat and repeatable, the fact that the cursor is banging up against the iron mask border, well it's trying hard to warn you that there is probably a non-ferrous target mixed in there.

Set up your iron mask level using the 'QuickMask' screen, just to knock out local iron on the site you're searching.

Then transfer it it your SmartFind screen.

Go back to your QuickMask screen and clear away all masking levels.

Now you hunt with the SmartScreen, and double check when necessary using the QuickMask screen.

Toggle between screens using the QuickMask key-pad.

(Refine settings to suit your person taste)
