Saving Programs and Faster use of Discrimination

When I first joined up with this forum there were a few things I was hoping I would get help with. One being saving programs now I was able to accomplish this but it saved over one of my factory presets is this normal or can I save it another way still keeping the factory preset.

Second I thought I had this one down as soon as it was explained to me I thought for sure I had it. On the DFX there were two types of edit features Disc Edit and Block Edit. I used Block edit as it was lightning speed once I got used to it. As it is now I am blocking out one VDI at a time and to be honest I cant believe whites would do that so there has got to be another way to Block out VDI's without going one at a time. Someone said try the arrow key and I did that but it didn't accept or reject anything it just moved me to the next VDI. Can you explain or anyone explain this one to me again.

Like I said in the past I dint know a thing about this detector now I'm finding out I can even change colors of the background screen this is really cool and there are so many features that I am going to go over tonight I think I am missing alot but these two questions will answer things I use daily and will help start me from there.

Thank you

Discrimination edit: Go to your discrimination setting page (you are doing one at a time, so I assume you know how to get there). I am going to use an example - I'm sure it is not realistic, but for purposes of explanation, it will do. Say your VDIs from 45 to 90 are accepted, but you want to reject them all. Go to the first VDI you want to reject - I'll use 45 for my example. Press enter to notch out 45. Then once you see that it's notched out, press enter (on 45) and hold it down - do not release or it will re-accept. While enter is held down, press the down arrow key. You can do this one at a time or hold the arrow key down constantly and it'll do the auto repeat. When all VDIs in the range are disced out, release both keys. (See page 32 of the manual too).

Program save: There are 2 places the programs are stored (actually 3). There are the library programs which are stored in flash. There are also loaded programs which are stored in the EEPROM and they are used as your default program if you ever want to go back to your "defaults". They may or may not look like the library program depending on whether you have saved new settings in your loaded program, or if it's the default from the factory. Your current settings are also stored in the EEPROM, but are not stored into the loaded program until you "save" them using the save function in the program section.

There are a bunch of different options you can do. You can save your loaded program to a new program. You can restore your loaded program from the library program...

So, say you want to save your working program into a new program. For example, (and only an example - I'm not sure which program you were making changes to that you want to save) lets say you made changes to C&J. You want to save your new program to Sarahsprogram. You need to go to the expert menu. The first item in the expert menu is program. Select Program. Scroll down to new/copy and press enter. If you want to save your program from the library version (C&J), you will want to select C&J in the "library program" section. This will not save the settings you had made, but rather the settings from the flash - something you may want to do in the future, but not right now. To save a program with the settings that you adjusted, you need to downarrow to the "Loaded program" section. Press enter. Left/right arrow to the program you are saving from (Coin and Jewelry). Menu/tab to the "Name" field. Type in your new program name. To get to the "keyboard" press enter. A box with letters to select for the name should come up. Use the arrow keys to get to the letter you want, press enter to select it. When you have your name spelled out, press menu/tab to exit the "keyboard". Press menu/tab again to tab to "create" and press enter.

You mentioned that you had already saved your settings, but overwrote the factory settings. Use the procedure above to save this program to your new program. Once you have saved your program as a new program, you can restore your factory program (I'm going to assume C&J again, use the one that you actually had saved though). To restore, go to restore/load in the program menu that is in the expert menu. Select the name of the program you want to restore (left/right arrows scrolls through the program names). menu/tab to the "From" dialog box. Scroll down to "Library program" and press enter. Select the library program that you want to restore from (C&J) - this is the program that has the factory settings.. Menu/tab to load and press enter.

You should now have your new program with the name you wanted to call it with your new settings, and you have your C&J back to how it came out of the factory.

You can also save your program as a library. So, if you modified your program some more and got to a place where it wasn't working at all, you can restore your program either from the original C&J program, or your own library program - depending on how far back you wanted to go. That is why there is an option that allows you to select which library you want to restore from.

That is what I do and it works fast for discing in or out large blocks of numbers. I like to disc in iron down to -20 or -25 and this method works well and fast..

I need to play with discing with the icons, that sound's interesting too. There are so many great things about the V3 I can't wait until I understand them all. I've just never seen anything with this much thought put into it. Whites has really impressed me.
