saving adjustments

Every time I go to make a new program to save, it always affects the program that I last had used. It overwrites the program previously used is what I'm trying to say. Is there a way around this besides saving the one I use before making another? Thanks, Jim C.

Sounds like your saving it in the user A or B slots? should be putting them in S1-S6..those slots are available through the select finction...

or not explaining myself very well. When I turn the detector on the last used settings are loaded (correct). Now, when I go to make a new program it affects the settings from the loaded program that I have when the detector was turned on. I guess the question is. Should I be able to make a program without messing up the last used program? Its not a huge deal just trying to learn. Jim C.

Unless there's a trick that I don't know about you will always overwrite the current saved program, that is if you save it to that program.
Other than hunting in Iron Mask, and using the factory preset programs, I can use one of my 6 saved programs (they are all simply different variations of only two types of patterns). When I want to modify one of the 6 I just select a pattern from S-1 thru S-6 and modify it (edit or learn) then overwrite(save) it with the new program, and the previous custom pattern is gone as expected. >>>>However, if you modify a pattern or create a new program over say S-5 but save it to S-3 then you will still have the original S-5 but S-3 will be overwriten.
Unless I'm going to start off using Iron Mask and depending on the ground conditions, I usually have to go right to the menu select screen and open up an appropriate saved program or standard rejection program. I usually don't have to do this if I'm returning to hunt the same section of a particular site.

If you saved the program before you turned off the machine you could hold the on button for 5 sec. then you would start in the Quickstart program. Make a new program and then save that one. you would not affect the first program you made.

Oh OK, I understand.. well all you gotta do is save it before making any adjustment. save it in user A or B, that will save every setting you are using at the time, where as I think the S1-S6 only saves the pattern? any way if you save it to user A or B, then make your adjustments.. the next time you want to go back to that old setting just load the user A or B you saved it too

There are two seperate save functions on the Explorer XS.
1.User A & B, These are used to save your preferences in regards to Sound, Depth, Audio, Response, Threshold, and Gain. If you share your detector with a spouse or friend you can both set up your own favorite patterns, or if you are the only user then you can set up for diffrent situations such as Trashy areas, Maximum depth, Beach conditions, or Clay ground, ect.
2. You have 6 slots available for programs. Plus you have the original coin pattern that can always be reset by holding the power button for a few seconds untill the intro sounds stop. If you want to keep the peviouse set up for a pattern before you make changes I would save it to the #1 pattern slot as this will be your base pattern you started from. If your starting from the original coin pattern programed into the Explorer than you don't need to save it as you can always access it again through the power button hold startup.
Hope this helps. and good luck, Miles
